Children will discover how to make things happen, like lights, sounds, talking and wiggly-wobbly action. They'll also hear a song that will help them learn about "stop" and "go." And as they get closer to school age, The Lil' Movers School Bus will help them imagine what it's like to ride a real one. Includes bus, Michael, Maggie, Carlos the Bus Driver and wheel chair piece."Stop and go," that’s what riding the school bus is all about. That and enjoying the bumpy, "wiggly-wobbly" ride, of course! This cute bus will appeal to every toddler and preschooler who has gazed longingly out the window as the big kids board the big yellow bus, off to exotic destinations unknown. Measuring 12 inches long and half again as wide, the durable plastic bus rolls through town, jostling the passengers with the aforementioned "wiggly-wobbly" action. Push down on driver Carlos and see flashing lights, plus hear the "Stop and Go" song, beeping horns, giggling children, and commentary from the driver ("Everyone sit down…let’s go to school!" etc.). The bus includes driver, two passengers, a wheelchair for one of the riders, a swiveling stop sign, a door that opens, and easy access through the roof for children to play with the figures. The ideal toy to while away the hours until the real thing arrives in a few years! Check out the entire line of Lil’ Movers vehicles. Three AA batteries required (not included). What We Think

Fun factor:
Durability:
Ease of assembly:
Educational factor:
Novelty factor:

The Good: Safety belts, non-tip turning, and cup holders.

The Challenging: Can be hard to pull if fully loaded, or could be too big to fit in compact cars (check the wagon dimensions if you plan to travel with it).

In a Nutshell: A popular, award-winning, and durable wagon that will entertain your children for years.

The Radio Flyer's seats flip out, letting kids be comfortable as they ride. View larger.

Flip up Seats to Give Kids a Comfy Ride; Flip Seats Down for More Storage
Winner of awards including the National Parenting Publications Gold Award and the Oppenheim Toy Portfolio's Gold Seal Award, the Pathfinder is smaller than the Radio Flyer's Ultimate Family Wagon, but still roomy. Two kids can ride comfortably, or one child can ride with plenty of extra room for storage. Even three smaller kids might be able to ride in this versatile wagon (but keep in mind there are only two seat belts).

The flip-up seats provide back support for the young ones, but don't recline, which would be nice for sleepy kids. The Pathfinder is made of sturdy plastic, in Radio Flyer's trademark red color. Assembling the wagon is fairly easy, but it does take a little time to get it right, and you should follow the illustrated instructions carefully.

A Classic Wagon Just Gets Better
Radio Flyer has been making wagons since 1923. Besides good, old-fashioned durability and great design, this solid wagon offers plenty of extras, including cup holders, an extra long handle, and flip-up seats. Safety features such as seat belts and non-tip turning are popular features for parents. The roominess of the Pathfinder means you can haul a lot of kids and toys, but beware, when fully loaded, it can get heavy.

Certified Frustration-Free Packaging
Amazon.com has certified this product's packaging is Frustration-Free. A Frustration-Free Package is easy-to-open and comes without excess packaging materials such as hard plastic "clamshell" casings, plastic bindings, and wire ties. Unfortunately, I can't speak or write Hebrew (even though I'm Jewish), but there's this woman who sings children's songs in Hebrew with American translations. She teaches basic Hebrew. Not sure if that's what you'd like.

Question by Marie =]: What questions should I ask a preschool teacher in an interview for a school paper?
The woman I am interviewing is my godmother and was also my preschool teacher. So I think I could ask her some questions I wouldn't ask other people, but I just need more suggestions on what to ask. Obviously the question should have to do with what her job is like blah blah. Any suggestions are appreciated greatly.
Thank you,

Question by lamenting: My daughter is 3 and is to start preschool soon, but how can I get her to use the potty reguarly?
We've been trying for so long now. She can dress herself. She knows what going to the bathroom is. She's perfectly capable of following instruction and is otherwise compleatly compitant. She hits every mark of readiness and we've tried tons of methods from candy and stickers to little toys. We even tried a movie about potty training. We've taken her compleatly out of diapers durring the day. We've told her that in order to start school (something she's very excited about) she must go all the time. It worked for awhile, everything works for a little while. She goes to the potty when the mood strikes her, so we know she knows how. She just wont. I'm at my wits end and the start of preschool is fast approaching.
The problem with these is that we haven't foung a vegitable she doesn't like (including brussle sprouts and spinnach) We've tried a sticker chart for all her "chores" including using the potty and we leave her in her wet underwear, but she will go and change them herself. If she's smart enough to change her own underpants in an effort not to get caught she should be able to go potty, she just wont. I know she's smart enough to go. The preschool testing administrator thinks it's behavioral because she's above average intellegence. Her apptitude test actually tested her out of preschool, but I chose to send her anyway.

You can take several methods:

threaten her (wouldn't do that)
reward her (would try again)
tell her she will have to eat a yucky vegetable if she doesn't use the potty

thats all i have, i've never had to potty-train someone

Social Studies: All Day Every Day in the Early Childhood Classroom

Social Studies - All Day, Every Day, is a research based text containing the latest research on learning styles, reading and math, and best practices. In light of the recent No Child Left Behind legislation, many teachers of young children are opting out of teaching social studies in favor of spending more time on reading and math instruction. Not only is this inappropriate and unfair to the students, it is unnecessary. In this text, the reader will discover ways to study in-depth, a wide range of the social studies, while spending the necessary time and intellectual energy developing reading and mathematical skills. The opening chapters of the text define the social studies and describe the National Council of Social Studies (NCSS) standards as they relate to teaching young children. The remainder of the text breaks down teaching methodology for working with young children and the social studies, and looking at individual disciplines within the social studies. Practical application, with a theoretical base, is the key to this text.

Question by starah99: What do you teach a kindergarten student for science?
I have started homeschooling my children, both are in kindergarten. The curriculum I have does not provide science. I was wondering what I should teach them for science. Last week we did baby animals, but now I am stumped. Any suggestions or idea's would be great! Thanks so much!

Look into More than Magnets (available on Amazon-and all of the books in that series are wonderful).

You can visit the World Book Encyclopedia website and click on Parents, and then on Typical Course of Study, and click again on Kindergarten. It will give you a general rundown of the topics generally covered in each subject.

What Your Kindergartener Needs To Know will have some activities that are science related.

Ready For Kindergarten by (I think?) Susan Wilcox is a great book!

And Story Stretchers is another good resource.

When my older two were that age, we did Unit Studies. We covered weather, plants, the five senses, animals, human body, etc. Things that are an everyday part of their wolrd, and which their understanding comes easily and is very interesting to them.

I hope this helps, and wish you the best!

Question by The Joyous Hedonist: In a Christian worldview, wouldn't bombing a preschool be the most merciful and selfless deed?
NOTE: I would never bomb a preschool and I think it's immoral if anybody does it.

I would like to present a thought I encountered when I used to be Christian. I was then unable to refute it through logic, but now I thought perhaps someone else could. The reasoning goes as following:

Most children of any preschool (at least in Europe/Sweden where I live) would with near-absolute certainty become atheist with regard to the Christian God. They would live a life in a flawed world for a lifetime that's very limited in time compared to an eternity in heaven. But after this lifetime, most of these children would eventually be judged guilty of sin and sentenced to an eternal Hell with excruciating torments.

I was thinking that, since the majority of children grow up as ''sinners'', die and then ''go to hell'', wouldn't it then be a merciful act to bomb a preschool; and let the children die before they mature enough to become accountable for their sinfulness? Wouldn't it also be very selfless to sacrifice one's own salvation (by breaking the commandment of ''thou shalt not kill'') in order to save a group of children from Hell?

One may argue that the families of these children will be deeply hurt and therefore it would be wrong. But on the other hand, wouldn't this be an infinitely brief moment of pain compared to the realization of that one's child is in Hell for a whole eternity - no matter if the parents themselves will be tossed there or not? I'm certain that parents in Hell would be devastated over the presence of their children in the same flaming torture chamber.

(As an atheist and child-loving humanitarian, I would never bomb a preschool - in fact, I'm planning to work as a preschool teacher and possibly get a master-degree in education. So don't call me sick; I love children, but I only drew some logical conclusions within the framework of the Christian worldview, no matter how repulsive that turned out.)

Question by Hayl X: I need a gross motor activity for my preschool lesson plan..ANY ideas? please help?
4-5 age group, My lesson is Dreams. not like your sleeping dreams more like your future dreams. Please help i need one activity? we are already using a blance beam and doing an obstacle course.

Best answer:

Answer by Karen C
Perhaps you can gather in a circle and suggest some future "dreams" such as becoming a firefighter. Act it out by pretending to squirt a hose "high" "low", "behind you," etc... to also incorporate some language. Maybe another future dream would be to own a horse and you could all gallop around the room. You get the idea.
