Question by me: can you recommend a good preschool curriculum I could follow at home for my 3 (almost 4) year old?
I've been browsing a lot online, but I don't know what are the best sites.

Best answer:

Answer by FLmom3
A friend of mine uses a website called www.letteroftheweek.com I checked it out and you use a specific letter each week and then from there, you can incorporate all subjects. For example, If the letter is O, you can print out a coloring page of the letter, talk about the color orange, make a snack that starts with O, learn the shape "octagon", etc... There are a ton of ideas on the website and I thought it was cute. If you are looking for a curriculum that you purchase and use like a workbook type, I have used products from www.aop.com (Alpha Omega Publications) and I have also used various materials from Scholastic. Hope this helps.

Question by SMS: Does anyone know of a really good preschool/toddler curriculum?
Hello! I am looking to start a private preschool! The children in my care will all be starting at 22-26 months of age. I am looking for a preschool/toddler curriculum I can purchase that offers a daily schedule. I would love it to incorporate circle time, creative play, music, art, printouts, games ect. Please let me know if you have any suggestions! I am currently looking at adaycare.com. Thank You so much!

Best answer:

Answer by lynn
The Creative Curriculum is wonderful. It will give suggestions for daily schedules and is very teacher friendly. It isn't a road map for teachers but it is research based and has a great reputation. I have used it and I loved it. It does not believe that dittos or print-outs are developmentally appropriate for preschoolers though. Worksheet activities are not developmentally appropriate for preschoolers and can cause many problems. Worksheets typically have a "right answer." Children may learn quickly that putting down a wrong answer (or drawing the wrong picture) is emotionally costly. Worksheet activities may make children feel ignorant and incompetent, so that they learn to stop taking risks by guessing...

Check out the Creative Curriculum though. It is awesome.

Career Opportunities in Curriculum Development

Education in India is going through a gradual revolution.

At the same time that the government remains a dominant player, several private organisations including those with corporate backing have gradually come into this space.

This has resulted in increased funding for research, engaging education experts and efforts at creating an education system which is at par with those of developed countries.

For learners it has brought a comprehensive curriculum — that covers a plethora of subjects.

As the world gets more interconnected and complex, and as careers get more specialised, the early exposure of children to these becomes more relevant.

Curriculum designers therefore face a daunting task of creating a curriculum that covers not only the academic subjects, but also issues of global concern related to World Politics, Economics, Sociology and importantly, the Environment.

In addition, with the advent of technology and its rapid penetration into our daily lives, it has become important to help learners get to know its nuances and consequences.

While learners of yesteryears spent their entire school years inside the four walls of their classrooms, learners of today have effectively broken this barrier.

So in what ways has curriculum development been affected?

To start with, the curriculum is now more progressive – following research into teaching methodologies and learner psychologies. Conventional teaching spaces and methods are being replaced with modern techniques that allow a more symbiotic relationship between the teacher and learner.

It is also dynamic – with material getting updated as some topics get redundant and new ones get added.

It is not rigid – giving learners allowances for multiple interpretations – especially related to creative expression.

Inspire Education is a Delhi-based Curriculum Development & Training Services Company founded in 2009.

Inspire's founder members are expert educators who had first-hand experience of challenges faced in conventional classrooms.

Their own struggles at keeping their students engaged and focused; joys at trying innovative techniques to teach particularly difficult topics; successes at building happy learners led them to think of how they could use their experience to create better teacher-learner experiences. Inspire develops Preschool Curriculum and Primary School Curriculum keeping in mind learner psychologies and how children learn best. Emphasis is given to practice in Math, hands-on activities and experiments in Science, field trips in Nature & Social Sciences. Even the classical subjects – language and literature are taught differently.

Most importantly subjects are dealt with in an inter-connected manner, just as they occur in real-life.

Inspire engages with Academic Planners – who are experts on a subject – to create outlines of all topics that need to be taught for a certain grade/level of learner. This Academic Plan includes progression of topics based on their relevance and difficulty level.

Next in line are the Instructional Designers – who have ample training in effective teaching methods to design the framework of the curriculum. They use the Academic Plan for reference.

IDs can double up as Curriculum Developers, though they are usually separate roles. The developers flesh out the content using the Academic Plan and framework that the Instructional Designer has created.

Curriculum Developers also need to be aware of technology and find ways in which they can use it to supplement the content – particularly for online curriculum.

Play and learn preschool: The best kangaroo kids-kkblr

Learning is a part of our lives and this education helps us to achieve the various dreams and goals that we have set our sights on. This learning process begins from the time that we are babies. The solid foundations for social interaction and education start during the preschool days. At these places children follow a preschool curriculum that allows them to play and learn at the same time.

In the various preschools that can be found there are different activities for children. These activities are designed to stimulate the mental and creative abilities of children. It is at these places that your child will have the beginnings of their formative education.

Lessons from books are great, but children learn through play far better than they do in other forms. There are several reasons for this. At the heart of it is their desire to learn. When learning is not so much work but is fun, children are more willing to participate. They want to jump in and have a good time. As a parent, the more that you can teach through play, the more that your child will retain later on. While some skills need to be taught formally, such as math facts and reading, there are still great ways to teach through play.

Children learn through various methods, but often their physical and social world teaches them the most. Even small infants learn this way. Parents can enhance a young child's learning process by giving them a variety of ways to learn through sight, touch, taste and smell. For infants, play the games that children love, such as peek a boo and other interactions that teach cause and effect. It also teaches them how to interact socially with their families.

As children grow older, they still need stimulation. Remember, kids having fun gives them an added incentive to do the activity you want them to. Pretend play is one of the core elements of the development of imagination. Pack up a truck full of great costumes (you can pick these up very inexpensively after Halloween) and encourage both boys and girls to play. What you will find is that many of the roles playing games they play now are direct reflections of the experiences they have had. For example, a child who may be going to daycare for the first time may practice leaving her baby doll at a pretend daycare. The act is helpful, but the conversations they have of telling the doll that "mommy will be back very soon" will help them later to deal with their fears of being left. Encourage this type of play.

Child's play through the years changes even more so. During preschool and kindergarten, one of the best ways to teach a child is through stories and pictures. They learn to interact with each other as well as with the outside world. For example, set the stage for a great adventure story. Read them the story during the morning hours. Then, give them a few ideas and let them act out the story in their own way. You can teach many of the fundamentals in this manner, everything from manners to helping those in need.

Other activities to encourage helping children learn through play include:

• Craft projects: they explore their talents and explore texture, dimension, color and shapes

• Dance: They explore their physical bodies and stay physically fit

• Building with blocks: Everything from wooden blocks to Lego's helps children to learn structure, dimension, balance, and help them to grow their imagination.

• Drawing: Use various types of mediums from paints to pencil to help them to learn numbers, letters, shapes and much more

These activities can incorporate other skills, too. For example, perhaps an art project can center around a specific letter of the alphabet. Do not be elaborate, but do be dramatic. The social interaction that takes place between teachers and children at this stage also helps the children to understand the role of their parents and of their teachers. From these two sets of adults the child learns of the social barriers that define right and wrong. The preschool curriculum also sets out the various subject matters that your child will explore first. These subjects will be learning the alphabet and some basic maths. Additionally your child will be introduced to the science subjects by letting them see how the various objects in nature interact with each other.

Question by MomOfGeminiTwins: Preschool curriculum for homeschooling your child?
I have 2 (3 yr old) toddler that are very ready for preschool; however, our local district is charging $ 1700 per child. It would cost up $ 3400 for both kids to attend preschool this year, plus I work part time job and thought about homeschooling my children myself. I would like a curriculum for homeschooling so I know what exactly to do, therefore, by pre K they will know what the school requires. Do you recommend any websites, book or tools. Thanks

Best answer:

Answer by Haruhi
PreK is unnecessary. Let your child be a child and don't worry about any structured learning. Make your home a open learning environment, but don't worry about any structure and curriculum. I would not worry about any structured learning until 1st grade, and even then it is very loose.

I hate how they are trying to place kids into school earlier and earlier, yet they completely ignore the fact that literacy rates and test scores are continually dropping in the school system...

Question by Obama is not my president: What is the best homeschool curriculum for preschool & kindergarten?
I use PACE curriculum for my 6th grader but I have one that I am going to be doing preschool with next year & then kindergarten. The PACE system doesn't look that great for children just starting out with no reading skills. To the experienced homeschooling parents, what do you recommend?

Question by Del: Does anyone use ABC home Preschool Curriculum and how do you utilize it?
I recently purchased the ABC Home Preschool curriculum for my 3 yr old and my 4 yr old, has anyone used it before? I am wondering how to make use of it. Do I do the same activities daily? Really not sure. Thanks for any replies!

Best answer:

Answer by hsfromthestart
Haven't used it. Checked on http://www.homeschoolreviews.com and didn't find it listed.

If the directions don't explain how to use the curriculum, see if there's an address to contact the person who wrote it and ask them your questions. Or just use it as you see fit. Most preschool programs that I've seen have a lot of daily repetition, so it is highly likely that you repeat the activities daily.

You may want to check out http://www.worldbook.com to see their typical course of study list for preschoolers. But personally, a curriculum isn't that necessary for preschoolers. Read to them a lot. Explore the world around you. Teach them the alphabet song and other children's songs. Visit the library often. Make sure they learn colors, shapes, letters and their sounds--all of which can be taught without curriculum. Do lots of fun crafts with them. And read to them a lot.

Good luck.

Question by Christin B: Do you have any advice on a good Preschool Curriculum for Homeschooling?
I plan on homeschooling and want to start soon with a preschool curriculum. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Best answer:

Answer by Jeannie
Preschool is pretty basic - the alphabet, counting, reading books, easy arts and crafts - it is mostly a socialization process to teach children how to behave and get along with others, to prepare them for school. Scheduled playtimes, taking turns, following directions in a classroom setting. Pretty basic stuff. My son loves it. (I am not homeschooling.)

I did look into it a while back; just do a search on amazon.com for "homeschool preschool" and you will get a list of books that may help you or give you ideas. You can often get a new or newish book from their used listings for less than half the new price, plus 3.99 shipping. I usually only get used if they are in "very good" or "like new" condition.

Equip Your Preschooler to Succeed in School

Selecting the right preschool is important to ensure that your child’s preschool experience will help them to gain an appreciation of what school is like and acquire a positive attitude toward school.

After you’ve confirmed that the preschool has been state-licensed to confirm that the facility has adequate space and staff and meets your states requirements, schedule an appointment to visit.

When you walk into the preschool door, linger a moment and be attentive to what you hear. Whose voices are dominant? In a good preschool, the children’s voices should dominate (unless it’s quiet time, of course).

Visually, you should observe a bright, colorful and safe environment where children look comfortable and are interested and engaged in an activity – not overly distracted or wandering. The adults should appear as though they enjoy their work, are in control, (but not harsh) are responsive to the children, loving and caring. Classes should have no more than 20 students – around 15 is ideal.

Make sure to ask how long the teachers and assistant teachers have been with the preschool. Teachers and assistants who’ve been with the preschool for years and a generally low turn over rate of staff is a good sign. Also ask what the teacher requirements are. Look for four-year college degrees with early education and childhood development training, first aid and emergency preparedness.

Finding a safe and qualified preschool for your child is an important component for a successful preschool experience for your child but don’t overlook what you can do as a parent to prepare your preschooler.

Structured play groups are great options to develop good group play skills, listening skills and the self worth needed for more structured school environments. Look for preschools that provide fun activities and self-worth building concepts. Look for curriculum that has been designed and structured by a preschool curriculum expert.

Affirming the wonderful qualities within your child will also help to build your preschooler’s self worth and position them well for starting preschool. A parent’s words are very powerful within the life of their child and have a huge influence on how they view themselves. Get into the habit throughout the day to affirm the positive choices your child makes.

Even a drive in the car can provide an opportunity to fortify your child with positive principles that will position them for a successful school experience. When your child is “a captive audience” buckled in the car, play uplifting music that encourages your child to be their very best. Make sure the CD is fun to listen to, will reinforce to your child that they are a unique and wonderful miracle while encouraging them to be the best they can be.

Preparing to start your child’s school experience is an exciting and wonderful time! Gathering information and resources and visiting preschools will make you feel more confident in your decisions as a parent while you invest in your preschooler and make them feel more confident about themselves!

What Should Be In Your Child'S Preschool Curriculum?

What Should Be In Your Child's Preschool Curriculum?

Boston-area parents in search of preschools in Brookline or Brookline daycare centers offering a preschool program, might be surprised to discover how many different l curriculums there are for this age group. Some of the better-known preschool curriculums include Montessori and Reggio Emilia, but most preschools and daycare centers in Brookline tend to use a combination of curriculum models in their classrooms.

With each curriculum model having a different style of learning associated with it and variations of these models being used by preschools in Brookline, the question becomes how do parents determine which Brookline preschool curriculum is best for their child? The answer is that it really depends on your child’s learning style, temperament, age, developmental stage and your parenting philosophy.

What is the Purpose of a Preschool Curriculum?

While curriculums vary in terms of activities, learning, and teaching methods, the goals of the curriculum for preschoolers are essentially the same. Whether your child attends a Brookline daycare center with an age-appropriate program or one of Brookline’s preschools, programs for this age strive to enhance the social, intellectual, emotional, and cognitive development of the child.

What Should a Preschool Curriculum Include?

A typical preschool curriculum used in a Brookline childcare center, preschool or family daycare in Brookline will include activities that increase language and literary skills, as well as prepare children for math and science. Basic activities that foster these skills include identifying sizes, shapes, colors, and words, In addition, activities that focus upon developing the ability to recognize patterns and sequences in the form of numbers, shapes or letters should always be part of a preschool curriculum.

Enriched programs for Brookline preschool children will include reading stories, drawing pictures, writing practice and telling stories aloud. These activities may seem like "play" but in fact, they prepare children for reading and strengthen their language skills. Given that much learning for older children requires a solid foundation in reading and language skills, parents should ascertain this is included in the curriculum used by their Brookline preschool program. In addition, family daycare in Brookline for preschoolers should also foster early math skills such as counting, recognizing patterns, shapes and categories. In some cases, children may even be introduced to the concept of telling time.

When evaluating a program’s curriculum, there is one thing to keep in mind. Regardless of the Brookline preschool program you choose, the activities presented to the children should be engaging and provide ample opportunities to learn and masters skills upon which a lifetime of learning may be built.

Q&A: Preschool curriculum?

Posted by chris

Question by Just me: Preschool curriculum?
Does anybody know of any good toddler and or preschool curriculum's? I am looking for something that you can have sent to you every month, not anything that you have to pay for and print your self.

Thank you!

Best answer:

Answer by Amber
:-) I did a little "research" on some of these purchased monthly curriculums and find that they are lacking. Each child, group of children are so different and their needs are so different that a "curriculum" like this really do not meet the needs. Also, it hard to "send" you a well-rounded curriculum. A lot of it is paper "work", art ideas that really aren't open ended etc. I tend to now view these "curriculums" more as a supplement...something that can be added to one's main curriculum or extend it. I, personally, found that creating my own was the best route for me.

young children learn best through play. During the course of play, they learn social skills such as taking turns and working together, as well as absorbing the fundamentals of the lesson without even realizing that they are doing so. Further, this particular age group is most receptive to learning new skills; their brains are like sponges, eager to soak up all that they see, hear, and experience. It is for this reason that preschool programs are generally play based.

Preschool learning games are built into the curriculum to help foster these important lessons that will help children have a successful Kindergarten experience and, ultimately, a successful school career. Today’s preschool learning games include a number of activities such as ball play that fosters hand-eye coordination, writing games that further fine motor skills, physical games that help promote gross motor skills, card games to help encourage memory retention, and games focused on books to instill a love of reading and language. Many teachers will find creative ways to teach the basics such as ABC’s, mathematics, social science, and history through preschool learning games and fun play.

Additionally, the modern preschool environment will often utilize computers to incorporate preschool learning games. A host of computer programs geared to the preschool age teach a variety of essential lessons with the assistance of color graphics, lighthearted music, and recognizable characters to spark the interest of children.

When choosing a preschool, look for a curriculum that incorporates preschool learning games into daily activity. This first foray into a learning environment should be one that includes nurturing, fun, and activity. Research has shown us time and again that children respond to this type of environment and will retain a love for school and of learning that will follow them for a lifetime.
