Question by me: At home preschool program w/ Activities & Curriculum?
Something with a biblical influence would be a plus, but not necessary. Does anyone have a preschool curriculum that they use and love? I am looking along the lines of something that I can order or buy rather than a free website w/ ideas. THANKS SO MUCH!

My Father's World has been a popular curriculum provider for all ages. The Well-Trained Mind is a book that suggests types of narration and pre-school readiness activities too. Reading to them lots of good books and let them articulate it back to you equips the memory and vocabulary. Some pre-schoolers are ready to write and some are not. Encouraging them to draw pictures from the story or dictate while you write the story is a great way to develop the motor skills and introduce them to writing readiness. Sonlight is a literature based curriculum that may be pricey but they have pre-school stuff available and Bible based.

How daily activities help your preschooler get acquainted with different math skills?

Unlike the common perception preschool math is not all about counting and identifying the numbers. While undoubtedly these are important skills to master, there are other skills like matching, sorting and classifying objects that your kid learns during the preschool years. These skills help your child to notice how things around him are alike and different and create an awareness which is important for successful math learning.

There are different preschool activities that teach your kid different math skills like puzzles, tangrams, crafts and preschool math worksheet in a fun and interactive way. But without the involvement of parents, preschool learning can't be effective and successful. So, what are the ways you as a parent can use to teach the important math skills to the little tots?

Counting skills:

Ask your preschooler to help you arrange the dinner table. If there are four of you eating then ask him to lay 4 knives, forks, glasses and plates. Count them as your child lays them out. You can play counting games with your kid anywhere. You can ask him to count the toys on his toy shelf, shoes in the cupboard or clothes in the closet.

Sorting skills:

Next time you're doing laundry then call your child for help. Your child can sort all the clothes by colors. And when the clothes are dried your child can also be in charge of sorting out shirts, pants, socks and pajamas for folding. Sorting socks is also a good way to teach. Ask your child to sort the socks by size or color. Matching up pairs is also an excellent way to practice

Sequencing skills:

You can teach sequencing by talking about your schedule for the day with your kid. For instance, if you are about to go for grocery shopping you may say to your preschooler:

"First you are going to take a bath."

"Then you're going to dress and put the socks and shoes on"

"Then we need to get our shopping bags."

"We will walk to the grocery store and do our shopping."

You can also teach sequencing at the breakfast time: "Today we are having oatmeal for the breakfast. So, What do we need to do first…[second, third etc]."

So, you can see how getting involved in day-to- day activities can help your kid learn important math skills.

Activities For Preschool Kids

Preschool age is a good age to get your kids interested in writing and reading. By starting early you can lay strong learning foundations at a young age.  Whatever you are teaching the kids, use a step by step approach. Don’t expect them to run before they start walking. Let me give you an example to clarify what I am saying here – let’s say you want to teach them alphabets. Don’t start with alphabets. First concentrate on developing their fine motor skills. Get them to draw simple lines, circles, zig zag lines, tracing etc. Do this for a few weeks and then slowly move to alphabets and numbers.

When they are writing, concentrate on their pencil grip as well and make sure they get that right. It will take a long time for the kids to develop a proper grip – just keep correcting them and in time they will get it.

Preschool worksheets can be quite helpful to teach the kids various new things – from alphabets to numbers to language development. Don’t hand over the worksheets and expect them to complete the task. Sit with them, help them and participate in the activity as much as you can. It will also make the activity a fun exercise. Plus this way you can also monitor their progress.

Do not over do the activity though. Spend only a limited amount of time each day. It is important that kids enjoy the exercise otherwise they will soon start hating the entire learning process – and this is not good news. If your children have older siblings then you can get them to do their activity when the older ones are doing their school work.

Do not stick to a rigid scheduled – going with the flow usually works for me. Some days they might not want to do any writing – and that is okay. May be do some painting or reading on these days. See how you child is on that day and adjust your teaching scheduled accordingly.

When i learned my ABC's...i will always remember learning them by making animals out of paper that started with the letter. If was really fun and i still have them today. Its just the face of the animal and i think we just put together cutouts.

You could work on gross motor skills and have them pretend to be airplanes, helicopters, etc. Also, you can watch Jay Jay the Jet Plane, or set up a dramatic play area about space...create a spaceship out of a box. You can get a large refrigerator box from certain stores.

The impairment of social interaction and communication skills in children with autism symptoms becomes more apparent through play activities. While the lack of social interaction and speech can sometimes be missed in the home environment (not all children vocalize and interact at the same level at similar age), poor interaction with other children of a similar age is a significant indicator of potential autism.

Due to the lack of social awareness, the autistic child may appear to prefer playing alone. The tendency of the autistic to focus on an object, for example, may be apparent in a simple activity like playing with a toy truck. While it appears that the child is indeed playing with the truck, in reality he may be more interested in the turning of its wheels.

Indeed, the more or less typical ritualistic play of the autistic child does not allow for spontaneous interactive play, as a change in routine may trigger an inappropriate outburst. The lack of spontaneity also precludes any role-playing or "pretending" type of play involving other children. Lesson Plans For Autistic Children

Also, the child with autism who is prone to temper tantrums may find it very difficult to interact with other children, who may avoid him because of it. Additionally, the extra stimulation of having others about may overwhelm the child, who may be extra sensitive to noise. Inappropriate attachments to objects may also preclude sharing toys with other children. His inability or unwillingness to make eye contact with others may be disconcerting enough to cause other children to avoid him, as is the lack of the ability to smile spontaneously.

Lacking an interest in the activities of others' emotions and activities, the child with autism misses out on the feelings of joy derived from imaginative social play. Moreover, play is an important means of learning about the world around him and the autistic child misses out on these life lessons.
