How Can Childcare Vouchers Reduce the Cost of Childcare for Working Parents?

What is the Government Childcare Voucher Scheme?

Childcare Vouchers are part of an UK government initiative to reduce the cost of childcare for parents.  There is no cost to the parent of taking part in the government childcare voucher scheme, it is self-financing for employers to support employees through this benefit scheme and it is free for carers to register.

Did you know that in December 2007, the Times claimed that there is £8 billion in unclaimed beenfits.  Childcare vouchers are a great way  of working parents, employers and carers working together to reduce the cost of childcare by up to £1195.56.

Early Early Vouchers

The salary sacrifice voucher scheme works by your employer providing childcare vouchers from Early Years Vouchers Ltd that you can give to your child carer. The carer then redeems these with Early Years Vouchers Ltd. There is no extra cost involved for the carer. The employer deducts the value of the vouchers from your gross pay before tax is applied, hence the financial saving.

Childcare Vouchers operate as part of a Salary-Sacrifice Scheme

Childcare vouchers are easy to use and set-up, in the same way a pension is.  A salary-sacrifice scheme allow working parents to save money by paying for childcare before Income Tax and National Insurance.

Financial Benefits of Childcare Vouchers for Parents

Government childcare voucher schemes have great financial benefits.  For the 2008/9 tax year the tax free childcare voucher allowance is £55 per week (£243 per month). The savings on parents Income Tax and National Insurance are quite substantial; up to £903.96 per annum for a 20% tax payer and £1195.56 for a 40% tax payer.

What childcare can childcare vouchers be used for?

Childcare for children up to 16 years of age can qualify. Childcare vouchers can be used for a wide variety of child care, including:

- After School Care

- Play School

- After School Clubs

- Pre-School Clubs

- Childminders

- Au Pairs

- and any other sort of registered childcare.

Question by jveryrad: How will I claim the childcare credit for next year?
My daughter is 2 years old. Last year, I didn't claim any childcare credit because my mom was the caregiver, and it wouldn't make any sense to deduct the amount and add it to her tax bill.

This year, we will be sending her to a daycare center that charges around $ 1200 a month. Do I need to get their tax id in order to claim it, or can I just put down their official name and address to claim it? Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by donna_and_scott
Most centers will give you a form that you can use for your taxes. It will show them and their id, as well as your info and what you paid for care. Ask about it now to reassure your concerns.

Pre School Search Engine New Zealand - Find the right Childcare

Selecting a childcare service for your child is not an easy task for caregivers and parents. Many decisions will have to be involved before picking the right pre school for your child.  So, what makes a quality early childhood centre?

Fundamentally quality is defined relational, caregivers and parents will focus on the service of a center and how to compare it to its competitors in the market. Centre philosophy, curriculum, child ratios, session times and cost are just a few of the considerationsA centers philosophy states their beliefs and values or what they hope to provide for the children, emotionally, physically and mentally. Who they are and their commitment as teachers is where you can get a feel for what the center represents.

Every pre school bases their program on Te Whariki - New Zealands early childhood curriculum. It is founded on the aspirations that children "grow up as competent and confident learners and communicators, healthy in mind, body and spirit, secure in their sense of belonging and in the knowledge that they make a valued contribution to society." Each centre will have a unique daily layout, from a scheduled day with set times for music, art and play etc to a centre which is based solely on learning through free play both of which the centre will incorporate Te Whariki into the programme plan.

Child ratios is a very important factor when picking a pre school, lower numbers of children to teachers is going to be a better option. Caregivers must ask what the ratio is within the pre school. Ratios can vary considerable between pre school to pre school depending on the age of the children, the type of program activity, the inclusion of children with special needs, the time of day, and other factors, this is an important question to ask when choosing the right centre for your child.

Caregivers and parents are able to choose between half day sessions and full day careCosts will also differentiate between services these are not always listed for the public to view and will depend if it a private organisation or community based. Private organizations often have hidden costs which might be not be necessary for you to pay or they may be optional charges that you don't know to opt out of.Finding the best pre school will require you to investigate, visit and compare. In order to gain a closer feel of the environment within a pre school you are encouraged to visit and spend some time observing teachers and their interactions with the children. To make this a little easier for you take a look at my Child a fantastic search engine which provides you with the opportunity to compare online before making that trip to the pre school.

Question by Emmy Jo: How much do you pay for infant childcare?
I have a six-month-old son, and I will soon be returning to part time work. I would need childcare for two or three 8-hour days each week. I am wondering how much I should expect to pay for part-time childcare. I'd be interested in hearing how much you pay for childcare, especially if you are in the U.S., California, or SF Bay Area.

We are open to either a daycare center or a home daycare.

Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Artie Lange Fan
Around here daycare centers are about $ 250 a week

Licensed Home daycares are about $ 180 a week

(Northeast US)

Edit: I just saw you were asking about part time, I agree with the other person, part time daycare s hard to find, if they do part time they still charge the full rate or close to it (maybe $ 50-60 less).

Question by 2tally Clueless: Can I deduct more of my childcare expenses as a corporation?
My wife is a freelance consultant. In order for her to work we have to pay for childcare for my son. I know I can deduct a small amount of childcare from my personal taxes. If my wife incorporated, would we be able to deduct more childcare as a necessary business expense?

I know - I'm a cheapskate asking on this site instead of going to an accountant, but that's what the internet is for, right?

How to Choose the Right Childcare

Posted by chris

How to Choose the Right Childcare

Providing the proper childcare is a parent's number one priority. However, finding and choosing the right provider is never easy. Aside from the preferences of childcare providers, the parent must also consider the family's lifestyle and financial status. Due to the continuous growth of the childcare industry because of demand for providers, the cost for quality childcare has also increased through the years. Also, there are various types of childcare providers to choose from so it is significant that a parent know what he or she wants for the children.

Choose between a part-time or full-time childcare provider.

Whether to employ a part-time or full-time childcare provider depends on the time spent away from home of the parents. Some providers are available only on some days of the week or for a specific number of hours only. Babysitters, for example, are mostly teens and they work for part-time only mostly during weekends.

Determine the budget for childcare.

As said, childcare is costly so determining what a parent can allot will largely determine the option that he or she may provide for his or her child. It is recommended to review all childcare options and choose the highest quality that a parent can get which would fit the family budget.

Consider the age and needs of the child.

Another important factor to consider is the age a child because childcare providers' services also vary depending on the age group of children. Moreover, children have several needs also which may depend on social, emotional and intellectual growth. Some children would prefer a large environment while others may settle for a small group of fellow learners only.

Know the locations of childcare centres in the area.

The location of various childcare centres will also help the parent decide whether a centre is applicable to the child's needs. More importantly, if ever a centre is chosen for childcare, the parent can choose which centre is more strategic to his or her home or office in case of an emergency. The reputation of the childcare centre should also be considered.

Gather a list of reputable in-home childcare providers.

Choosing in-home childcare is not easy. It is important to contact reputable or credible in-home childcare providers only. Note that an in-home childcare provider such as a nanny or babysitter will be staying at the family home alone with the child. An in-home childcare provider is usually the only adult present inside the home. A parent may source a list from recommendations or from reliable childcare provider agencies.

Conduct interviews even for childcare centres.

Whatever the type of childcare, it is recommended that a parent interview the provider. Interviews are not only for babysitters, nannies, au pairs or governesses but also for the childcare centre educators. Aside from the academic background of the educators, a parent must also inquire about the teaching methods not only for intellectual but also for the emotional growth of children. Moreover, it is important to ask about the rules of a childcare facility for sick children.

As much as possible, no parent desires to be separated from his or her child especially during the most critical years of growing up. However, most families require both parents to work and provide for the family so a portion of quality time with the children has to be sacrificed. This is why finding and providing quality childcare has become a goal of parents requiring considerable amount of decision-making.

Childcare?

Question by Mom to 1 and 1 on the way: Childcare?
Does anyone have their kid in a Childcare Network daycare?

Best answer:

Answer by 4girls&done
I don't know what a network daycare is but all 4 of my kids went to daycare/preschool. If you are looking for placement, you need to do several things. Go and personally see the center, meet the director and teachers and see how they handle things. Speak to people who have used the centers and get their opinions. Lastly, go with your instincts. My 5 year old was in a very good center, learned a lot, kept busy, etc. But they had a high teacher turnover rate and I was not comfortable with that so I took her out. Use your best judgment and good luck,

The search for childcare ideally should begin when you discover your due date. This gives you plenty of time to research your childcare options. Depending on the type of childcare you choose, there are several items of importance to consider before selecting a provider. Are you going to need in-home care in which a single caregiver comes to your home If this is the type of care you need, be aware that many of these providers are not licensed nor are they required to be licensed. In this case it is especially important to get references from previous employers for at least 5 years. Ask for names and phone numbers; don't hesitate to call the parents who have used their services. If the provider refuses or is unable to provide this information for you, move on. In-home caregivers may be left alone with your child, they may be unlicensed and are often costlier than other types of childcare; caution should be exercised when choosing this type of childcare. Another option is family childcare, which is a more casual environment with a limited amount of children enrolled, and is usually less expensive than day care centers. This type of childcare requires you to drop off and pick up your child at the person's home. Often there are charges made if you are late in picking up your child; the caregiver is more like a nine-to-five business and may strictly enforce this rule. These types of childcare providers should be licensed, and the type of care provided is left up to the individual so again, references from other parents are crucial. Still another option is a day care center, which must be licensed. Your child will be among more children, receiving less individualized care than the previous two types of childcare mentioned. However, there are many benefits to this type longer hours of operation, less stringent rules on pick up and drop off times, and more activities with more children to interact with. The down side may be the more children your child is exposed to the more chance of illness and other problems resulting from interacting with many young children at once. Before you have your baby is the best time for you to visit your prospective childcare providers. Take along a notepad with you; make notes of any positive or negative items you will want to check into later. Checklists provided by several websites can be printed out, using your notes for comparison. If you are going to be returning to work after maternity leave, having several providers lined up will make your intro back to work less stressful. If you are working out of your home, or work part time, it is still beneficial to have a childcare provider on call for emergencies. This would be a drop-in provider who can be called at the last minute and basically is an on-call provider. Having a drop-in childcare option will also afford you some time to get back into the routine post-baby. Even a few hours a week can give you time to do the grocery shopping, keep doctor's appointments, have lunch with a friend or just get out of the house for an hour.

If you use childcare or daycare in Dallas, it is important to have a back-up caregiver for your child.   Your provider may need to take time off for a family emergency or illness and on occasion your child will be sick and need alternate care.   At any rate, you should have a back-up plan for your child that allows you to get to work. Daycare TermsBe clear that the provider’s vacation and sick-day plans are expressed in written form in your contract.   You should know which cases will require you to activate a back-up plan for your child. Strategies for Finding Back-up CareIn many cases, you can find back-up care in a more informal way.   Begin by asking family and friends who stay at home if they would be willing to care for your child in some instances.   You could also ask other parents you know who stay at home if they could care for your child on an infrequent basis.   If you choose one of these routes, make it clear that you will pay for the services, and also make the rate clear. You can also look for centers or family childcare homes in the Dallas area that provide back-up or temporary care for your child.   These types of programs require a copy of your child’s immunization record and other pertinent information to accompany the child to the program; some programs require preregistration for this type of care.   Additionally, you may be able to contact in-home/placement agencies that can send a provider to your home to care for your child.   Make sure you understand the agency’s services fully, especially the prices, which can be rather high. Items for Your ChildIf you use an agency or facility for back-up care for your child, you will need to prepare a brief information packet about your child.   Include medical information about allergies, medications, and emergency numbers, as well as basic routines for your child.   This will make it easier for the provider to accommodate to your child and be ready for any situation. If your Child is SickBe prepared for days in which your child is sick.   Make sure you understanding the illness policies of the caregiver or center, as well as your workplace policies if you are required to stay with your child on these days.   Discover the many options you have available for care on these days, from friends and relatives to centers and agencies. To see if there have been any valid complaints or information regarding a program, or if you would like more information regarding legal field trip procedures, call the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (DFPS), visit their website at www. dfps. state. tx. us, call 1-800-862-5252, or contact your local licensing office.

The hunting of basic guidelines for the care of children should begin as soon as you know your due date. The reason behind this is that the early start gives us enough time to review all options for child care. Before settling with the provider of child care in particular, many things must be considered. If planning to opt for a Caregiver at home, then you must make sure that the provider at least the last five years. For this you can take references from previous employers of caregivers. This is important because it is not mandatory for caregivers to have a license. You need to ask the names and phone numbers. You should also not hesitate to talk to people who know the caregivers and have used them before. You must be very careful in choosing the provider of the household because they are very expensive and also stay with your child, even when you will not be there. Therefore, do not go by a physician who is unable to provide sufficient information on its history pasado.La next option that is available is childcare in the family. These types of more informal environment and are less expensive and also have a limited number of children enrolled in it. This service allows you to mandatory file and pick up your child from a place of a person. In many cases, we will charge you more if you pick up your child later than usual. Remember that these caregivers are as a company of nine to five. However, it is important to ensure that are allowed as how they perform their work differs for each individual caregiver. Thus, references to other parents as primary importancia.La following alternative is to leave your child in a manger that has been approved. But the point to note is that your child will receive more individual attention here. Another downside of this is that your child may develop the disease may be due to the interaction between many children. However, the benefits of these types of day centers are numerous. They have very strict rules on time and your child will be able to interact with more number of children and learning more in the proceso.La best time to visit all places of care for children of the future is to child. You can make lists and notes for future reference before choosing the ideal place for your little toddler. You can also use the many websites that have provided for this purpose. If you intend to return to work after maternity leave period, with a number of suppliers is expected to return to less stressful work schedule. The best thing to do in these cases is to choose a day care professional who can develop into caring for their child, even during emergencies when you need someone to take care of your child emergency. Abhishek successfully run her own daycare and it has some great secrets of child care in the sleeve! Download the free 66 page ebook, "Understanding Nursery Inside Out!" Their website http://www. Best and parents. Com/480/index. Htm. Only limited free copies available.

childcare is an excellent option if you prefer a less serious approach to childcare. You will find that there are fewer kids in the hotel, and that children in a household with a family or a person rather than a business. centers of family child care are authorized state, and can provide care for children of all ages. What to Look For in a family daycare centers is important to note that the care centers for children at home have different rules from state to state. You always want to check your license with suppliers, and ask questions if necessary. Many parents find it comforting to attend child care with their children for a few hours the first day, helping children adjust more easily and to give parents the opportunity to see what kind of environment is provided at home. You can ask if there is a wizard, so you can take care of their children if the primary caregiver is sick. There are also different rules established by the provider, for example, if you need to send snacks or meals, or if they are included in the weekly rate. Often, vendors include a meal such as meals and snacks in their charge. You'll have to do everything necessary for your child, however, such as diapers, baby bottles and formula, if necessary. Meal times are very important considerations. If you are responsible for breakfast, for example, make sure you have the time to give your child lunch before falling out of it. This will he is happy and ready to play until a snack or meal. You may wonder if you can send a snack if you have a child who likes to graze between meals and snacks. Home providers are often willing to work with parents to find a routine that works well for the child and the caregiver. Communicate with your child ProviderYour Home care of children spend a considerable amount of time with the caregiver, so good communication is a must. Make sure you are comfortable enough with the rules of the house of the supplier to perform, which will also facilitate the transition from home to daycare. You may also notice that sick children are generally not allowed to attend. This protects other children and the guardian of the disease. Even if a treatment center for children at home is a good option, there are certain rules still apply. Do not be afraid to interview several childcare providers to find the one you feel comfortable. Once you have found a reliable goalkeeper, you and your child can enjoy a warm, caring until they are ready for school. One of the biggest advantages of choosing a supplier base is that often there is much room for flexibility, so you know your child has met their needs.
