I don't know what state your in, but in Florida you need only 2 courses to be certified. Check with your state licensing department, they should be able to clarify this for you. I don't think that you need to obtain an associates degree. Best of luck to you!

Question by *I Love Being Their Mommy*: How should I go about picking daycare?
I am a mommy of a 1 & 3 year old little girl. I've never had them In daycare, & Never left them with anyone other than my family & Their daddy's family. I was wondering If someone could give me some questions that I should ask (Not that I don't already have a million; lol) & Maybe give me some tips on choosing the right daycare for my little ones! Thanks.

Answer by MegS
Asking around other parents might be able to point you in the right direction. Visit the places you are thinking about. Don't settle for just the tour and BS the center director will give you. Ask to sit in the room and talk to the teachers. Try not to be intimidating, just friendly. See how they interact with the kids. Ask what kind of activities they do. Just be nice and a good teacher will understand. Let them know you are looking for the right fit, not critiquing their teaching style. A good center will have administrative staff that is nice to the teachers.
Rooms should be clean but if they are to perfect the staff is spending more time on cleaning than the kids. "Lived in" is the best look. Decent space for the number of kids. Toys!
Find out the laws in your area that regulate how many kids are allowed per teacher. Make sure the center is in compliance. At least ask them about it.
I only worked for chain centers, things might be a little different with at home places.

Just look for a good fit. Talk to the teachers, make sure they seem happy. Over worked teachers might mean the kids are not getting enough individual attention. It's a hard job. Be nice to the teachers, remember how crazy your life can be and they have that times however many kids plus their personal life.
Nannies are great, I was one. I liked how close I was with the child and the whole extended family. I knew their schedule and could keep the son on it. That meant a smooth transition between me and Mom. I went to their house, making Mom's life easier. Get references, have interviews, have a potential nanny come spend a whole day with you so they can see how you interact w/ your child, and vice versa.
Good luck!

Ok, Im a college student who is getting ready to get there bachelors in Education. I want to own a daycare as well as a Preschool and Kindergarden program. Now I've been searching for 2 years trying to find some information, I got abunch of books, and everything, and information on grants and everything. I just want to know what is the best way to start out? For example what's better a Modular building? what's a good size? What should I do first? Im really confused! PLEASE HELP!! lol

Best answer:

Answer by mnkstapel
OK--start by looking up your local "Child Care Resource and Referral" agency. All states have them in one form or another. In Wisconsin, for example, they are in several counties and go by different names, but the generic name is what I stated above....... They can help you get started, get questions answered etc. You will also have to speak repeatedly with your state's child care licensing agency (google it for your state) and have all the health and safety requirements met before you can get a license to do this. Start there, and they can continue to point you in the right direction.

The Value of a Daycare Learning Center with Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK in Carrollwood, Tampa, 33625

Experts in the field of child development agree that the best childcare facility that parents can choose for their four year old pre school children in Carrollwood, Tampa, 33625 would be a daycare learning center that includes the Florida Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK Program in its offerings. If you are looking for a childcare facility for your own pre school kids, perhaps you should also learn more about the value of such a daycare learning center for your children.

The free Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK Program of the State of Florida was signed into law in January 2005. The state government developed the Program based on the established principle that children undergo the most important developments in the growth of their brains between the ages of four and five when they begin to establish the ability to have focused attention and to obey directions. Research has shown that a structured process of learning during this period best helps children to develop their abilities. The free Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK Program of the State of Florida is, therefore, a structured pre school preparatory phase in which four year old children are taught all the skills they need in order to best learn language, pre-reading, pre-math and social interaction.

According to the same child development experts, children who have received high quality childhood education programs are later found to have comparatively more superior performance in school and higher levels of education. From the kindergarten level onwards, these children have more developed language and social skills, less behavioural problems and higher test scores. As students, they become strong readers who are highly motivated and have a love for learning that lasts a lifetime. Because of this, they are most likely to succeed in their respective fields.

The free Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK Program of the State of Florida can be availed of during the school year or in the summer. If taken during the school year, it covers 540 instructional hours. If taken in the summer, though, the VPK Program lasts for only 300 instructional hours. Each VPK class held within the school year, usually as an after school program, has a maximum of 18 children. In the summer, each VPK class has a maximum of 10 children. In either case, there should be one teacher for every ten students.

To teach a free Voluntary Pre Kindergarten Program given within the school year, a teacher is required to hold an associate degree in child development. Alternatively, an associate degree in another field may be acceptable provided the teacher has taken six hours of credit on child development or early childhood education, as well as 480 hours of experience in child care or child education for kids up to the age of eight.

To teach a free Voluntary Pre Kindergarten Program given during the summer, , a teacher is required to hold a Florida Educator Certificate. Alternatively, the teacher could have a Bachelor's Degree in early childhood education, pre-kindergarten or primary education, preschool education, or family and consumer science. Of course, a master's degree in these fields would also qualify.

One of the daycare learning centers in Carrollwood, Tampa, 33625 that includes the Florida Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK Program in its preschool offerings is A Brighter Future Child Development and Learning Center. Its childcare services are, however, not merely confined to preschool four year olds. The services offered by this Christian facility actually cover childcare and child development for children from 6 weeks to 11 years old. After the children finish the Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK Program, they are further honed in the succeeding after school child development programs especially made for children in the K1, K2, K3, and K4 levels. It would, therefore, be good for you to check out A Brighter Future Child Development and Learning Center.

Choosing a Daycare Learning Center with Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK in Carrollwood, Tampa, 33625

The free Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK Program is the medium by which the preschool children of Florida are taken care of by the state government. In line with this program, the top daycare learning centers have enhanced their child development programs by integrating the VPK preschool preparatory program in them. The state government of Florida has further developed the program with the issuance of the periodically updated Florida Voluntary Pre Kindergarten (VPK) Education Standards. The goal of this document is to be a guide for all educators, including those in daycare learning centers, and parents in order to maximize the concerted efforts toward preschool child development. There is therefore no reason why any parent in Carrollwood, Tampa, 33625 should not choose a daycare learning center with the Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK Program.

Another document issued by the state government of Florida to serve as a complementary material to the Florida Voluntary Pre Kindergarten (VPK) Education Standards of 2008 is called "It's Okay to Play in VPK." This is a flipbook that aims to instruct educators and parents in how to set up the most effective teaching environments that can help the children learn the skills offered in the VPK Program. Those skills are identified and defined by the Florida Voluntary Pre Kindergarten (VPK) Education Standards of 2008. The two documents can be used together by educators and parents for the benefit of preschool children. Parents can also use these documents as checklists against which they could assess the features offered by those daycare learning centers that have integrated the free Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK Program into their own programs.

The eight developmental domains covered by the VPK program are specified in the Florida Voluntary Pre Kindergarten (VPK) Education Standards of 2008 as Approaches to Learning, Language and Communication, Mathematical and Scientific Thinking, Social Studies and the Arts, Social and Emotional Development, Physical Health and Motor Development and Emergent Literacy.

Scientific research has proven that structured play is the best means through which children learn most effectively. According to the "It's Okay to Play in VPK" flipbook, the free Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK Program uses different types of play activities to teach children the eight developmental domains of child development. These activities are done at home, in the community and in the classroom.

The health and joyfulness of children should be given priority in daycare learning centers as the children are involved in the different activities of structured play that teach the eight developmental domains. This is asserted in the Florida Voluntary Pre Kindergarten (VPK) Education Standards of 2008. The structured activities should be equally divided between active learning and play and between indoor activities and outdoor activities. Teachers of the VPK Program should be friendly, kind, calm and patient.

Also specified in the Florida Voluntary Pre Kindergarten (VPK) Education Standards of 2008 are the requirements for the facilities of daycare learning centers that carry the VPK Program. They should have ample space with equipment that are child-safe, child friendly, clean and in good working condition. There should be an extensive children's library, a dramatic play center, a children's art center, a music center, a sand table, a water table and a play area with educational toys.

A Brighter Future Child Development and Learning Center is a Christian facility in Carrollwood, Tampa, 33625 that offers child development services and childcare for kids from 6 weeks to 11 years old. Its daycare program for preschool children includes the Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK Program. It also has after school child development programs for K, 1, 2, 3, 4 children.

A Variety of Art Supplies Will Enhance Creativity For Your Child and in Daycare Settings

All children have a wonderful sense of creativity. But no two children are alike. When allowed to color, children will come up with different pictures, different color schemes, different styles, etc. One cannot control this. And it shouldn't be controlled; all types of creativity should be encouraged. A daycare can do this best when they have properly prepared for any and all type of creative play by making certain to have many varied and fun supplies.

Creativity often manifests itself through arts and crafts. Many daycare centers have craft tables or activity tables as a base for this. One reason for this is that creative play usually makes a mess. By providing a special space for this experience the mess is not only contained, but helps the children understand that this mess is only okay when playing creatively. The best way to promote creativity is to have the right tools. Be sure to have plenty of the basics-paper, pencils, pens, crayons, and markers-anything to help them draw. It is good to have multiples of anything that gets used often. This will prevent arguments as well as provide a spare if someone breaks something (or wastes it or ruins it).

You can spend a lot of money on fun art supplies. Simply walk through any store and you will see many different things that can be turned into art supplies by imaginative staff and children. Yarn, pipe cleaners, glue, glitter, buttons, scraps of material, pompoms, sequins, and so much more. There are also fun machines and kits that can be done by older children. But you will have to be careful that anything you buy will not become a choking hazard (or make anyone sick), which can be accomplished through your careful observation. But don't think that you have to spend a lot of money to find good art supplies.

Something as simple as an egg carton can be a great holder for little supplies. Scraps from projects can be good facilitators for creativity. Paper, especially colored paper, is very inexpensive and can be all that's needed for a good time. Glitter is inexpensive and can put a little kid's excitement into overdrive, as it's so fun to play with. Be thrifty and take care of your supplies and they will last much longer.

Many daycares actually do crafts that are planned out as activities. Doing this, and of course making sure each child keeps up with the class, ensures success for all. Each child will go home having made something they are proud of. However, this can be a negative experience when a child wants to do his or her own project and is forced to conform. Because of this, the best way to do projects is to do a basic project and then allow each child to personalize it their own way. An example of this would be creating a Popsicle stick picture frame, then allowing the children to decorate it as they want.

Kris Starliper has been writing about the various art supplies day cares and preschools should look into having to help entertain, educate and enlighten the children.

Choosing a Great Local Daycare

Posted by chris

Choosing a Great Local Daycare

Daycare is a widely recognized and helpful option for many parents.  Most often, the parents that are searching for good daycare options are those who work, have social obligations, or those who are concerned about their child's social interaction skills.  For whatever reason parents decide to put their children into daycare, figuring out what local daycare to enroll them in can be a tough decision.  The right (or, heaven forbid, the wrong) daycare has a big impact on both the parent and the child.

One of the best ways to find a good local daycare is to get recommendations and feedback from other people, especially other parents.  Ask the daycare, as well as other parents, about that daycare's strengths and weaknesses.  What are the specifics of those negatives and positives?  Research the daycare you're looking into on the internet as well.  There may be comments and information about your local daycare from parents who used their services previously as well as current information.  Once you have done all your research, visit the local daycares you like the best to help narrow your selection down even further.

Ideally, a walk-through of a daycare you're interested in should be done on a walk-in basis.  That way you are most likely to get a feel for and see what the daycare is truly like on a day-to-day basis.  Be observant when you walk in.  Taking into account that there are rooms full of children, how clean is the daycare over-all?  Other questions to ask include:

•    Are there age-appropriate toys?
•    Are there enough toys and activities?
•    Is the environment educational and engaging?

In terms of safety, is the daycare age-appropriately child-proof?  For the younger kids, there should be no exposed sharp corners, but even for older kids there should be child-proofing measures such as locks on outside doors that are out of reach of little hands.  Security measures should also extend to unauthorized access from the outside trying to come in.

Other common areas of your local daycare to look into are the kitchen (How much of a variety in menu do the kids get?  What about children who are allergic to certain types of food?).  If possible, bring your child along for the walk-through.  Let them ask questions and be sure to watch how they react to these new surroundings.  Most kids are sure to be intimidated, that's normal, but they shouldn't feel distressed.  A new, local daycare should be a good fit for all involved.

Some questions need to be answered by the director.  Questions such as:

•    What certifications are required of the teachers?
•    What certifications are required of the assistants and other workers who interact with the kids?
•    What certified board does the daycare subscribe to as a whole?
•    How often is someone sent out to check that all the requirements are being kept?
•    What is the highest health training available on the campus?
•    What are the hours of operation?
•    If you need your child to stay late, is that an option and how much extra would it cost?
•    What materials are you, as the parent, expected to provide?
•    What can you and your child expect from the local daycare?

Another important factor in a local daycare is the adult-child ratio, which is usually determined by whatever board certifies the daycare.  Obviously, the lower the ratio, the more attention each child will receive, resulting in a better education and greater safety.

After you have walked-through all your local daycare options, its time to compare the facts.  Be sure to get input for your child.  Armed with their thoughts, your own observations, and the facts from your local daycare options, confidently make the decision you think is best for you and your child.

Importance Of A Daycare Learning Center With Voluntary Pre Kindergarten Or Vpk In Carrollwood, Tampa, 33625

Child development experts in Carrollwood, Tampa, 33625 will be unanimous in telling parents of four year old pre school children that the best kind of childcare facility they can choose for their kids would be a daycare learning center that incorporates Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK in its programs. But do you know why it is so important to get a daycare learning center that incorporates Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK in Carrollwood, Tampa, 33625?

In January 2005, the state of Florida signed the free Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK Program into law. From the start, it was designed to be a pre school preparatory phase that will teach four year old children the necessary skills to begin learning language, pre-reading, pre-math and social interaction. The Voluntary Pre Kindergarten concept was founded on the scientific truth that between the ages of four and five, children are undergoing the most crucial developments in brain growth because it is at this period that they first gain the ability to focus their attention and follow directions. These developments were proven to be helped along by a structured process of learning.

It is not surprising, therefore, that children who have been given the best early childhood education programs were found by child development experts to perform much better in school later in life. They were found to have better developed language skills and social skills, higher test scores for school readiness, and less behavioural problems from kindergarten onwards. They end up becoming students who are highly motivated, strong readers and with a lifelong love for learning. They are, therefore, deemed to be most likely to succeed in their fields of endeavour.

The implementation of the Voluntary Pre Kindergarten Program law in Florida cannot be handled by just a single entity. It has, therefore, been distributed among different agencies that lead and supervise school districts, early learning groups and private and public providers of the VPK program. Day to day program management is handled by the Agency for Workforce Innovation (AWI); standards, curriculum, and accountability are handled by the Department of Education (DOE); and licenses and credentials are issued by the Department of Children and Families (DCF).

The Voluntary Pre Kindergarten Program is administered in 540 instructional hours during the school year and in 300 instructional hours during the summer. If given within the school year, the law requires that each VPK class should have not more than 18 children. If given during the summer, on the other hand, the law requires a VPK class to have not more than 10 children. In both cases, the ratio should always remain to be one teacher for every 10 students.

To qualify for the Voluntary Pre Kindergarten Program within the school year, teachers should have an associate degree in child development or an associate degree in another field provided they have six hours of credit on child development or early childhood education and 480 hours of experience in child care or education for children up to the age of eight.

To qualify for the Voluntary Pre Kindergarten Program in summer, teachers should have a Florida Educator Certificate or a Bachelor's Degree or higher in early childhood education, pre-kindergarten or primary education, preschool education, or family and consumer science.

A Brighter Future Child Development and Learning Center is a daycare learning center that incorporates Voluntary Pre Kindergarten or VPK in its preschool programs in Carrollwood, Tampa, 33625. I work full-time as a nurse but I am getting married this year and plan on starting a family in the next year or so. I would like to stay at home with my child when they are young and was curious as to what it takes to start a daycare. Germs And Daycare

Posted by chris

Germs are everywhere. And day care germs abound. They are too small to be seen, but we know they are there. Children can spread germs without becoming ill themselves. You can catch a cold, ear infections, diarrhea and worse. More serious illnesses such as chickenpox, impetigo and hepatitis are also spread by germs. Toys are a vehicle for day care germs are so dirty hands of a doctor after changing diapers or runny nose breath of a child. runny nose does not always mean a child is sick, but the child may also be something under your nose so to speak, and you will not know for several days until your symptoms begin to appear. So how can you cut the day care germs and minimize sick days your child every time a child gets sick with the cold environment, but the chances of infecting other children and childcare families of sick children can be greatly reduced by following some simple rules. Stay with your child's vaccinations. The schools will not enroll children in kindergarten without vaccination completed by the family doctor. The same requirements must be met for daycare enrollment as well. Keep copies of immunization records of your child and give them ready for kindergarten. You can request information on other children enrolled in day care too. All children enrolled in day care your child will be vaccinated. Always have a backup plan for days when your child is ill and can not attend daycare. Even if you suspect that your child is getting something, it should be at home. The mothers of other child care thank you for your compliance with this and should follow suit. But there are times when some parents ignore the traditional considerations surrounding children attending public places and send their children to daycare sick anyway. At home, frequent hand washing can reduce the risk of transmission of the disease in the rest of the family. Generally, wash hands after contact with your child is a good idea. You never know if you are contagious with something and keeping your hands germ free daycare, and surfaces that the child may be in contact with good prevention. Door handles, cutlery, plastic toys and like all the baby books beginner must be sanitized. Children should be taught from the beginning to cover their mouths when coughing and use the bathroom and proper cleaning is a necessity. before stools sinks that children wash their hands as big and colorful distributors target children children at the party. Children build immunities by being sick and therefore better. the seeds of care can accelerate the process that would otherwise occur in the first years of school, even babies start building immunities by contact with other children. Thus a child who has never been in daycare and has not been ill well be thrown into a kindergarten full of germs and begin to build your immunity, but at the expense of lost school days. So if the parents agree or not, the seeds from the nursery have their place in the life of a growing child.
