The development of your child is a complex and involved process, spanning a number of different physical and mental elements. Encouraging the mental development of your child, in terms of sociality, intellect and emotion is crucial in raising a well-rounded child to progress to adulthood, although it can often be quite difficult to think of creative and effective ways to stimulate this kind of development in your child. Given its importance, this kind of child development should be conducted both in and out of the classroom environment, to provide a consistent, efficient approach to growth and mental strength. In this article, we will look at some of the ways you as a parent can help stimulate your child's development.

Stimulating child development is a crucial part of raising a child, and requires creativity as much as consideration and thought for the requirements of mature thought and intellect. As a parent, it can often be hard to understand how best to stimulate your child intellectually, and of course there are no rulebooks telling you how it must be done. A great deal of the process comes down to exercising common sense, and understanding the needs and requirements of your child. Preschool Learning Activities: Emotional Development & Fine Motor Skills Development in Preschoolers

Preschool learning activities vary in many different forms. If you use alittle creativity, you can come up with great preschool activities and learning activities for preschoolers and children.

Emotional Development activities for kids as well as Fine Motor Skills Development are very important areas to develop in your child. 

 Having your child cut out various shapes and objects is a great way to help develop fine motor skills.

Of course if you are going to allow your children or preschoolers to do this activity you need to ensure they are using the proper ‘child safe' scissors when doing ANY cutting in any material.  

Here is a fun preschool learning activity that you can use with your child to help develop them in these specific areas of growth. 

Keep a collection of old magazines, newspapers or flyers that are full of images of people with different expressions etc. 

Instruct the children to pick a magazine or newspaper etc. to look through and find images of people's faces showing different expressions. 

They may find pictures of happy faces, sad faces, surprised faces, angry faces, scared faces and many more. 

The child can then ‘cut out' all the faces they find using ‘child safe' scissors of course, and they can discuss each different image with the parent or teacher and discuss what they see in the person's expression. 

Another Preschool Activity Option:

You could even just have children find and cut out  a certain expression, or what ‘they' see as a certain expression.

For example, you could tell them to find any pictures of ‘happy faces' and see what they come up with, you may be surprised what they find! 

It is good to keep these images and glue them to a piece of Bristol Board or construction paper, and then to laminate it. You can then cut them all out and save them in a box or envelope!

This will make the images last for years so they may be used again and again in many different ways to teach children.  

You could even use these different faces and expressions and have children ‘GROUP' all similar expressions together in a pile.

 Another Great activity for children becoming familiar with spelling and simple reading or word recognition would be to have a few different images (4-6) out.

You could then have the names of the expressions written on a piece of paper or a label (example) Happy, Sad, Angry etc. 

You could have the child(ren) match the image to the word. This is excellent for simple reading and recognition of every day words that express emotion.

Also the longer, or further along the child is into their development, then the window of opportunity has closed that much more. Thinking of it like a sponge as it is sometimes referred to is quite convenient in describing exactly what I am trying to convey here.
If the sponge is already soaking up kool-aid and you are trying to fill it with orange juice there is only so much room for whichever liquid that is late.
During the toddler years they are the most impressionable and in a direct and literal way. Once you begin walking and talking, you are at the beginning of developing yourself, who you are and what is called thought patterns. Your very own ways of thinking, like snowflakes, these 'thought patterns' are unique unto every child. This is beyond even the strongest of habits. We all know how hard it is to break a habit, well, it is impossible to break or change a thought pattern. Which is exactly the reason why they are so important. You cannot just change your ways of thinking, your thought pattern imprint.
Or lets just say that, theoretically you can, but once they are developed naturally they are done for good.
But still you never get a second chance to have a first time experience with any given subject. Dressing up the positive things in life and introducing them as entertainment, something fun, will give a good first impression. This leaves a lasting impression and they suddenly have a positive association with these things. Consequently, this goes for negative things as well only in reverse. Of course common sense tells us that we must make the bad habits and activities as unattractive and unappealing as possible.
This is why, when our children become toddlers parenting becomes so critical, so very important. Introducing new ideas should be done in a positive light and with guidance meaning you need to be there. Parenting actively makes you mean more to them in such a simple way as guiding through first experiences. Being persistent with filling the cup is crucial, because the most benefit can be gained during this period in life.
It will never happen again and there are no second chances to recreate who you are and eventually becoming the person who you will be. Yet, during the toddler stage the brain is at the best possible position to take unlimited amounts of information and imprint them with ease.
The receptors in the brain dilate, they open up kind of like a pupil, and thought pattern imprints are stored in the brain. This is the only time allowable to make its impressions permanent, this strong, and this complete. Only during these toddler years are we able to collect our set of permanent imprints. This is the only stage in all of human development where this occurs naturally and completely. It is also said that after you develop your initial character of thought, those receptors needed for the allowing the impressions, never open up quite as much ever again. Anyway, the true focus of all of this is for the benefit of the child and future life.
The brain at this stage, is being most vulnerable to impressions and screaming for the need of them. You must do your best to fill those needs with the positive impressions. The best way to do this is with positive interaction.
Providing positive first time experiences with things will endear the mind with confidence in proceeding with it natural curiosities. This process will multiply in dimensions beyond our reasoning. Building a connection by encouraging open communication about everything and increasing positive child development. Have fun talks about everything and anything. Try including some details, of how they feel about things. If the child is pretending go with for a little while. Then, subtly cause the direction to change by your influence and steer it from there.
Allow your child the ability to act out some fantasies(healthy ones) and give props and join in the fun. Play superman, or king of the mountain games, to bond and connect with your child. During these times of play try to inject as much learning as possible. During these formative years the brain can take an unlimited amount of learning skills with plenty of room to spare.
Incorporate learning skills into everyday activities in the life of the child during these years and so on. Your childs brain is much like a sponge at that time and you will want them to soak up all they can. Parenting toddlers can be fun but is also a major challenge, due to how constant the care needs to be administered. It can be hard to keep up especially when other considerations can come into play.
Children tend to try and push the limits of our patience. They are simply learning the limit to their power and how far that can pull the chains of command. This is also vital in our parenting process. It is important to surround these years with comfortable safe feelings of creative self expression for your child. This, is so confidence can build along with child development with positive first impressions. The more the positive experiences fills the brain, the more confidence will build and then develop problem solving all naturally.
This is also what is meant by discipline without punishment. Discipline is 'Guidance,' and not to be confused with punishment. Parenting with positive introductions will also give your child a better chance at being successful in school, life, and other areas as well.
So, by presenting positive first time experiences to our children seriously improves child development. This will in turn be the key tool that can be used to improve behaviors even before they begin. This is what is meant by the title of this article: "Parenting Child Development and Improving Behaviors at the Source!" This allows us to become much more influential with raising our children.

I was amazed at how fast I began getting results.




Moved to nice safe/ little traffic community in another country a few months ago. Noticed how children here are raised to be very independent which I think it is great, but I feel unable to give my child the same "liberties" other parents here do at that same age. Lived the last 12 yrs in Washington DC and maybe still to soon to think its ok to do so? Examples: (1) All children walk to-from kindergarten by themselves, no parent in sight (2) 10 year old mown the loan themselves (3) 3 yr olds play completely unsupervised in the bldgs common yard for up to 2 hrs at a time. (4) 11 & 13 yr old walk home after soccer (fussball) game and celebrations ends at 11 PM. Neighbohrs think its funny that I say I will not let my child do these things at these ages.

Children ages 3-4 should be acquiring their mathematical thinking skills as well as categorizing. Some simple but powerful activities to introduce and incorporate these skills are present each day at meal time!

Mathematical Thinking - Theme = meal time. Include children in sorting and counting out forks, spoons, butter knives, plates, napkins, and glasses to set the table for all members of the family. Involve children in anything that can be sorted or counted during the preparation of the meal. This is teaching them 1-1 correspondence and categorizing, which is what they should be learning and practicing during this age. Foods can be sorted as well. Have a fresh supply of fruits on hand and serve as dessert several times per week. A large can of assorted nuts is another example. Dad likes only the cashews. Can you count out 8 for him please? Sara only eats peanuts. We need to count out 8 for her as well. Can you help?

If children are allowed to pour the drinks into the glasses, they are also working on eye-hand coordination--another age-appropriate child development skill. Children also build vocabulary during meal preparation time. Talk to them about what you are doing, how you are making something and what you are adding and for what reason. You will see how quickly they learn new words and associate them with the meals they help prepare and participate in.

This age group should also be acquiring and honing social skills. Meal time is an excellent time to teach and practice social development. If children are fussing over the same activity to be involved in during meal preparation, teach them how to compromise by saying “ If Kate counts the plates and glasses tonight, and you count the forks and spoons, then tomorrow night you can trade and take turns like that each time.

Teach the importance of a pleasant atmosphere for meal time. The entire process of meal preparation and consumption should be relaxed not rushed, especially the last meal of the day. Turn off the television and/or games/music and anything that interferes with this time. Make it a rule that the last meal of the day is going to be like this every time. It is a special time for families to reflect on the happenings of the day and share with each other. Research tells us families who eat meals together bond stronger. And, just imagine how many skills the children are learning!

Children’s playtime should always be learning time. Parents, teachers and caregivers can conveniently accelerate three, four, five, six and seven-year old child development skills during playtime in:

Mathematical thinking, language development, emotional development, social development, small muscle development and large muscle development providing activities such as:

1. Play Grocery Store-- save empty food boxes such as oatmeal, graham cracker, salt, and pepper---any container that does not have sharp edges and make sure they are completely empty and clean. Children can make their own grocery store and label the cost of each item by writing the price on the item with a marker. Play store is a fun way for the age group 3-9 to understand words as symbols, and costs associated with food items. Inexpensive play money comes with a play cash register and is used to make change when a sibling or friend (customer) buys from the play store. Children can take turns being customer and clerk. This playtime activity develops all of the child development skills listed above.

2. Play Clothing Store—Use clothes that are not for special occasions and are in different sizes. Children can also pretend it is a rummage or garage sale. They can decide on prices and use stickers to adhere to the clothes. The same play cash register and play money work perfectly. Save sacks for children to use to put the clothing in that they are selling to each other. This activity addresses all of the child development skills listed above as well. As a child, playing store was my favorite activity. My siblings and I did not realize the enormous impact these games had on us until we were older.

3. Play School—Another great favorite of mine! Children can take turns being the teacher and presenting a lesson. As teacher, they are keeping the classroom under control and encouraging their students to follow the rules. They are playing the role of teacher and learner and they are teaching and learning themselves. Find a blackboard at a flea market or garage sale. Chalk is inexpensive and means so much to the children to be able to use it (like a real teacher). A dry-erase board is another option with dry-erase markers. A simple wash cloth will erase great if an eraser is not handy. Help children locate books that they will be able to read easily to develop the lesson plans and homework. Take turns being teacher and coming up with consequences for breaking any rules such as: staying 10 minutes after class for disrupting behavior during class or talking it out with teacher and discussing choices. This play activity addresses all of the child development skills listed above.

These are only a few of the games I used to play as a child that taught my siblings and me so much more than we realized. Rather than expensive or elaborate games that are bought in stores, if children devise their own such as the ones mentioned here, they are more important to them. The children themselves develop their own fun and learning.

Children have wonderful imaginations and if allowed to use them in an educational approach will astound you and them!

Stages of Child Development

Child development is a concern for all parents; in fact, many parents worry as to whether their child is experiencing the normal stages of child development. Because childhood development encompasses mental, emotional, social, physical and language abilities, tracking developmental milestones is a great way to ensure that your young one is growing at a healthy rate. Early Child Development: One to 12 Months

The first year of a child’s life is an important one in her development. In fact, your little one will go through many important development milestones during this time.

From one to four months, your child will cry, laugh, frown and smile. In addition, she will also make cooing sounds in order to express her emotions and communicate with you.

Once your child is five to eight months old, she will be able to put together single syllables (phonemes); this language development continues from nine to eleven months, when your child will continue to babble and also gesture meaningfully.

At 12 to 14 months, your child might say his first word.

Your baby will probably start crawling at from 6 to 10 months. On average, babies start to walk from seven to eight months or from around the one year mark. Early Child Development: Toddler Development

Your toddler’s development also encompasses physical and language abilities, as well as mental, social and emotional development.

At 13 months and onwards, your child’s language development will continue to expand. Her vocabulary will improve to include words such as “Hello”. She will also be able to attempt to lift heavier objects; meanwhile, her appetite will begin to decrease as her height and weight starts to more or less stabilize. Her eating habits will become increasingly picky.

From 18 to 24 months, your toddler will have clearer speech skills. In addition, she will start jumping and will be able to go up stairs by herself, although she will still require help going down stairs. Her motor skills will also continue to improve, and she will be able to open jars and turn book pages. Toilet training is also an important component of this stage of childhood development.

During the stage of 25 to 36 months, your child will have the ability to follow basic verbal commands. In addition, her speech will become increasingly clear. Normal child development also means that at this stage, your child will be able to brush her teeth. Continued social development means that children at this age will be able to identify their friends by name. Early Child Development: Preschool Development

At 3 years of age, childhood mental development continues to become more sophisticated. Your child will have an increased attention span and will also be able to match similar objects such as circles and squares.

Improved social and emotional abilities linked to preschool development means your child will be able to express her emotions, as well as learn to distinguish between herself and others using the correct pronouns.

In addition, a three year old child will have the ability to jump, climb as well as put on his shoes by himself and dress himself with help.

At four years, normal childhood development means that your preschooler can play easily with blocks; language capabilities during this stage of early child development means that your child knows basic grammar as well as can hold conversations. The use of adjectives, such as “cold” and “hungry”, also increases.

A four-year-old child will be able to count up to 10 and identify friends and family by name; continued social development means that kids will be able to play while abiding by rules and ask why.

The last stage of early child development is the five-year mark. Preschoolers at this age will know the difference between yesterday, today and tomorrow, and will also begin to establish more friendships. Improved physical and motor skills means that your child will have better overall body coordination. Language development also continues to develop at this period of early childhood development, and children at this stage will have a vocabulary of 13 000 words.

Numerous times we have thought of helping the children begging or peddling at the traffic signals, working at construction sites or the roadside stalls. Guru Nanak Garib Niwaj Education Society was started by Baba Amar Singh Ji to work towards the welfare children coming from below-the-poverty line families ,who generally don’t get the chance to go to school or complete their schooling. Baba Amar Singh Ji started the school in October 2006 with 12 kids of laborers who were not only provided with free education but food clothes books healthcare and other basic facilities. The success of the school and the society is proved by the increase in the number of students enrolled in the school and the increase in the number of admission seekers every year. Baba Amar Singh Ji , the founder (of Guru Nanak Garib Niwaj Education Society) has also funded a Muslim school for girls. To help this Society, to continue its endeavor to work for the child development, do make contributions to the organization.

Developmental theorists have long speculated that emotion and cognition are inseparable components of the developmental process. Some even suggest that the two components are fully integrated by school age. Yet, despite considerable theoretical work describing this interaction, relatively little empirical work has been conducted on the subject. This volume addresses the codevelopment of emotional and cognitive processes by integrating theoretical and empirical work on these processes. The first part of the book demonstrates the codependence of emotional and cognitive processes, noting that both processes are clearly necessary for successful regulation of thought and behavior and that children with early adjustment difficulties often have deficits in both types of processing. The second part considers possible neurological and genetic mechanisms for the emotion-cognition link. Finally, the last part explores implications for clinical and educational research, highlighting atypical emotional and cognitive processing and its effect on adjustment in academic and social settings.
