Question by leelee: What can I do with education in Child Development but I want to work with animals?
I am almost finished with my BA in Child Development and I know I want to work with kids, yet I don't want to be a teacher. I do love animals and I would be so happy working and helping animals. What kinds of jobs are out there where I can work with both? What kind of education do I need? I am willing to go to graduate school, but what do I get it in?

Best answer:

Answer by PK
If you want to work with animals, you can become a veterinary technician pretty easily. You will need to be certified in some places, so depends on your location.

Also, if you are already completing you BA in Child Development, you might want to see if there are pet therapy programs at hospitals in the pediatric wards. This combines all your experience and your interests. You can continue to work with kids and see if you can involve animals (registered therapy pets) in their care and rehabilitation.

Question by curious: What is the difference between earning a degree in Early Childhood and Elementary Education?
Will the Early Childhood Education degree let me work with elementary kids? Or up to 1st graders or 2nd graders? I have a bachelor fine art degree..I don't know if I should get a B.A. or a M.A. degree in the field of education. Is it necessary for me to get a B.A. in Education even if I have a B.F.A.? Or just getting a M.A. in Education better?

As the authors state in their opening chapter, prepare to be amazed. This beautiful book describes the revolution that the Reggio Emiliaatelier (art studio) brought to the education of young children in Italy, and follows that revolution across the ocean to North America. It explores how the experiences of children interacting with rich materials in the atelier affect an entire school's approach to the construction and expression of thought and learning.

Lavishly illustrated in full color, this original volume: includes detailed interviews with Italian educators from Reggio Emilia; offers a window into many ateliers within the United States, examining the multiple ways that experience is altered when teachers, parents, and children prepare and work together in the studio setting; addresses the practical aspects of the atelier, including organizing the environment, using materials, and provides examples of projects; and features a comprehensive approach that addresses many varied issues related to children, including learning, collaboration, relationships, and community.

Preschool Education ? Preparing your Child for the Race

Preschool in Aurora Colorado provide basic education before the commencement of mandatory education for the child. Developmental education is the basic foundation of preschool education. This is done by allowing the children to express themselves and explore the environment freely. An ideal age for preschool is between 0 - 5. The child's brain is developing and making connections at this age and anything learnt at this stage will be imprinted in the memory of the child for the rest of his/her life. It is therefore, always advisable to choose a pre-school wisely as children are extremely impressionable at this age.

Pre-schooling should be based in the best interests of the child, the central importance of relationships, the need to socialize with other children and understanding the ways in which individual children learn. Every child has a unique pattern for understanding and learning things. Pre-school simplifies this pattern which also makes it easier for the parents to help the child in learning certain things in the future.

The basic aim of a pre-school should be to focus on the safety and security of the child. This can be achieved by identifying the way in which the staff values the individual child. Pre-school should encourage physical, social, emotional and creative development of the child by giving them equal opportunities and extending the child's ability to communicate in a variety of ways like painting and creative art. Children are not aware of their surrounding at such an early age hence they learn well in an environment where they feel secure and safe. By planning, questioning and reflecting, these children learn to deepen the awareness in which they can feel and understand themselves.

Importance of Choosing the Right Pre-School for your Child

The most important thing in a child's life at this age, besides affection, is toys. A child experiments, builds things of his imagination and investigates. It is with toys that children gain their imaginative power, one of the most important tools that human's possess.

Preschool Aurora Colorado - Bradford Early Education has state of the art facilities to provide the best care and education to your child.

Question by Leland Beas: can someone simply explain the difference between montessori and regular preschool education?
also, is montessori better for very active children or more laid back ones? Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by the_unluckiest
In Montessori schools, there are more teachers to smaller groups of children. Also children are given the freedom to explore and learn/grow on their own with supervision. This allows teachers to identify what they're good at and help them develop those skill sets. The teachers are the facilitators for the children and allows them to grow/develop intellectually at a much earlier age (thus identifying what they're good at early on).

In regular preschools, educators are generally swamped with a large group of children and are unable to give them the much needed attention they all need. It's more of a "watch over the masses" mentality and they don't have the time or resources to focus on the individual development of each child.

These are the types of reasons why montessori schools have long waitlists. You practically have to bribe someone or have your child on the list before they're even born. This is also why they're expensive.

Question by Chas: What degrees should I get so I can eventually open my own daycare/preschool? Business? Education?
I will be starting to take my first college classes very soon to get a bachelors degree. The school I will be attending is University of Phoenix online. They offer alot of business degrees and a few elementary education classes. They also offer a certificate for early childhood education. My goal is to open my own preschool/daycare someday. What kind of degrees should I get? Would you recommend certificates?

Best answer:

Answer by mothernature79
I recommend you take your 90 clock hours in Early Child Development, some community centers and Head Starts offer that course either free, or for a small fee. Call your local Bord of Childcare and get more information on where it is held. If you want to open a childcare center or preschool, I would recommend majoring in Early Childhood Ed., and minoring in Buisness Management.

Question by Diana G: What are some short term goals that can be reached for Preschool Education?
Does anyone know what are some achievable goals that can be accomplished in a short amount of time regarding how to make all children have the opportunity to go to preschool?

Best answer:

Answer by TJ
I'm not sure what your question is. Are you wanting to figure out goals to make for preschool age children that they can realisticaly accomplish or are you trying to find goals that can be made for make preschool available to all families?

Goals for children- There are alot of useful goals that you can set for children, it really depends on what kind of curriculum you are wanting to follow. Some that I set with my children are; Child will recognize 10 letters or Child will manipulate an object(s) with both hands.

Goals for making preschool available to all- There are many options out there. There are private child care centers, child cares in school districts, and Head Start programs. The idea for children to start education programs at a preschool level is really more to focus on their social skills rather than their "education". That is why Head Start is in the social services department in the government instead of the education department.

I hope that I helped somewhat

Effective Practices in Early Childhood Education: Building a Foundation (MyEducationLab Series)

This text, written by one of the foremost authorities in the field, provides the building blocks for understanding effective practices in early childhood education.  Building upon the Developmentally Appropriate Practice framework that she conceptualized, Sue Bredekamp shows how effective teaching practices can make a difference in the lives of young children.  The book is designed to prepare a new generation of early childhood professionals by helping them construct a cohesive understanding of this dynamic field by reading about it in Bredekamp’s clear and engaging presentation, seeing it in action through integrated classroom videos, and reinforcing it online in MyEducationLab assignable exercises.

Demonstrates How Current Research Informs Effective Practices

  • Each chapter includes What Works, which presents research-based practices in action, including descriptions of demonstrated effective practices such as dialogic reading and engaging children in planning.
  • Expert’s Lens features focus on culture, linguistic diversity, and children with disabilities and special needs. Preeminent professionals in the field–Carol Copple, Carol Brunson Day, Gail Joseph, and Luis Hernandez–present their perspectives on key topics.
  • The terms and definitions used in this text contribute to establishing a shared vocabulary for all of those in and entering the field.

Describes What Effective Teachers Do to Enhance Children’s Learning and Development

  • This text emphasizes the notion that effective teachers are purposeful in everything they do. Effective teachers have the knowledge to make informed decisions and adapt for individual differences in children throughout the day.
  • Becoming an Intentional Teacher features get into the heads of what teachers are thinking and how and why they select the strategies they do.
  • How Would You Respond? features are critical thinking, classroom-based exercises that ask students to make informed decisions to address situations.
  • Chapter 9, Teaching to Enhance Learning and Development, is a unique, practical chapter that focuses on teaching strategies that work.
  • Building Teaching Skills and Dispositions on MyEducationLab are assignable exercises in key areas such as planning a culturally responsive curriculum and making decisions about what is developmentally appropriate.

Focuses on Curriculum Content and What Is Important for Children’s Learning and Development

  • Chapters 12—15 focus on the goals for young children’s learning and development in language, literacy, and the arts; math, science, and technology; social-emotional learning and social studies; and physical fitness and health.
  • Play is integrated throughout as an effective means to support all domains of development and promote effective learning in all curriculum content areas.
  • The emphasis on implementing effective curriculum includes current issues, such as the goal of aligning prekindergarten and primary education, research on what predicts later success in school, and expectations for teacher qualifications.
