Does anyone know a good website where I can find free clip art of children doing things at centers, such as coloring, science center, circle time, letter writing, books, etc. I use yahoo images sometimes but they don't often have children doing center activities. Any ideas would be appreciated. Thanks!

Answer by leslie b Try google. Type in a search for free clip art children learning. Then click at the top on images. You'll get a lot of different kinds of pictures. You can also try searching google images for children coloring, children writing, children reading, etc. like this one: http://www.learningbreakthrough.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/children_reading.jpg I use google images a lot for this kind of stuff and I'm never disappointed, always find something I can use! You can usually just copy and paste the image either from the search page or from the actual link like the one I posted above. Email if you have any questions about it.

I have been searching for a few months now for a free preschool/kindergarten curriculum for my near 5 year old son, and haven't been able to find anything that is actually FREE. Most are "purchase now, and never purchase again" type of things. With 4 kids 5 and under, and with how the economy is, I can't afford to purchase a curriculum. I live in the St. Louis area in Missouri if this is any assistance to finding a site. Thank you very much for your time and input!

Question by Amber: In a preschool classroom, how long should free choice time be?
It seems to be a question around here about how much uninterupted free-play time should be provided in a preschool classroom. If there are any Head Start/MSRP teachers out there...what does your guidelines state and what research is behind it?

I am a certified teacher who has been teaching for 14 years - the last 6 within a public school that uses the High Scope Approach for the preschool and kindergarten. I am in an Abbott, or urban district in NJ.
The children come in at 7:30am for breakfast and are given free choice with an aide from about 8:00am until 8:30am. The certified teachers come in at 8:30am. Circle time begins about 8:45am which is followed by small groups, then outside or gym time. The children then do planning time followed by a one hour period of "work" time - which is a play time encouraging socialization. After the hour, there is a recall period followed by music and movement, then lunch and nap. After nap time - about 2:00pm the children are given a large group lesson. From 2:30pm-3:00pm again, there is free choice. The certified teachers leave about 3:00pm.
The children are probably given about 2 hours daily for free choice - but keep in mind that there are rules to follow during this time. The children that are in the wrap around program (from 3:00pm-5:00pm are given math or literacy activities to do, since it is after the High Scope time.

I have a four year old who really wants to go to school, but we can't afford it. I tried getting her into universal pre- K but it is all filled up. She is sad that everybody is going to nursery school and she isn't. We do the library things, but she is really ready for kindergarden but a year too younge. Does anybody know of any free or very low rates on pre-school?

Answer by Kristy school systems, at least in michigan, have free preschool for families who cannot afford private preschools. also some preschools have voucher programs for families. your child can attend for a small fee or free and the school gets money from the government.

Question by Iamabuckeyefan: looking for free computer learning game for preschool?
My boy is 4 1/2. He was really into the games on pbskids.org. I was against him on the computer, but realized they were helping him learn so much so now I am all for it. He is loosing interest in those games. I tried Disneys games on their website, but he didnt seem interested. I had a few older games that I had in my desk drawwer that seem to keep his attention, but they are not entertaining games. Website games are okay, but also would be willing to throw some money out for a game as well. I also tried to Google "preschool games" but so many sites just use that as keywords just to get you to visit them. Looking for a game that will keep him busy for an hour(ish) a day that will also keep my wife stress free for an hour. Learning games are not required, but must be age appropriate. Suggestions?

Answer by JVG369 Try dora, diego, and over 100 other games on nick Jr website. They also have a subscriber website called nick Jr boost, that have several computer games where you can actually choose games that would improve specific skills such as language, math, etc. Also, try "I SPY" computer games, if you live in the US, its very likely that your local library may have various such software CDs....so you won't have to even buy these, but just keep getting different ones from the local library.
If you are willing to spend more ( around 250 dollars or so) then you can also consider ipod touch, it has several educational applications that you can download for a buck or two....its got fun apps as well as very educational apps such as counting, tracing letters, etc...and all of these are fun...my 4 year old loves the ipod applications and can play on it for an hour quite easily.
