Question by Max: What are some good preschool police officer groups/activities?
This weeks theme was community helpers, and I need some ideas for tomorrows groups relating to police officers. Google just gives me more generic coloring pages with a badge and a hat.

I have a 3-year-old and I always explain police officers to him as people who help other people.
Police officers call tow trucks for stuck drivers.
Police officers use their lights on the car to warn others to be careful.
Police officers help people who are lost to get home or help parents find the lost child.
Police officers remind drivers what is the correct and safe speed to drive on different roads.
Depending on the exposure that your students have to the media and at home to police officers in forceful situations, you might also need to deal with terms like arrest, jail, prison, bad guys, criminals, robbers, murders, kills, guns, etc. On these things you might just need to play it by ear since it can be unknown often as to how much the children will have seen or heard both in real life as well as in the media.
You might be able to go about it something like, 'Yes, sometimes police officers do need to arrest someone when they have done something wrong (or done something dangerous to or in front of other people). Police officers sometimes need to separate the people from each other for a little while so that no one is in danger anymore.' Then you can relate that idea to one which is probably more familiar to them; timeout. Timeout separates the two children who having a disagreement or separates the child who was moving too wildly from endangering everyone else.
Best of luck tomorrow!
