What sorts of lesson plans do you need help with? Large motor activities, science, music, art, stories?

Here's an example for a large motor activity:
Bean Bag Toss
Area of Development: Physical
Objectives: By participating in this activity the children will…
-Develop large motor skills as they use their arms to throw bean bags.
-Enhance hand-eye coordination as they aim the bags into the basket or bucket.

Example story activity:
The Itsy Bitsy Spider, by Iza Trapani
Area of Development: Social/emotional
Objectives: By participating in this activity the children will…
-Discuss feelings and emotions.
-Develop listening skills as the story is read.

Example science activity:
Magnet Exploration Table
Area of Development: Cognitive
Objectives: By participating in this activity the children will…
-Experiment with magnets and various objects
-Predict which objects are attracted to magnets, and test their predictions
-Classify objects that are attracted to magnets

Example of an art activity:
Painting with Cars
Area of Development: Physical
Objectives: By participating in this activity the children will…
-Develop fine motor skills as they paint using toy cars
-Coordinate various grasping techniques, including pincer grasp, to pick up cars
-Develop social/emotional skills as the use their imaginations while “driving” the cars through the paint with other children
-Develop creativity skills as they create their artwork

These are all samples of my own lesson plans when I taught a preschool class as part of my schooling. All child development teachers like lesson plans done their own way, but I hope this helped you develop your own ideas. Best wishes and good luck!

Call the number, you may be able to get a copy of the book. As for teaching lesson, I found this site is easier and follows federal standards too.
http://www.teacherquicksource.com/ I use the Head Start standards, Ohio follows these. The preschool standards is also great for lessons. That said, I think the standards are a bit 'weak'. Still, you know you have your bases covered. Don't forget to teach math and science. This site goes beyond standards, but is very age-appropriate and far better Preschool Rock. My computer isn't bringing it up, hope the site isn't down!

I'm beginning the first phase of my student teaching next month. The first half of the semester will be teaching children who are not yet old enough to attend public schools and have developmental delays. Some of the children are infants and toddlers. Does anyone have any lessons or websites that would help me out. I'm just trying to get some ideas ahead of time and have never written plans for this age group. Every activity must also be HANDS ON. Question by Danielle: Needing help with a preschool lesson plan?
I work in a preschool and I had to write the lesson plan for the Social Studies center this week. In the lesson plan the children will learn about different cultures. We decided to teach them about the different kinds of music that different cultures have (e.g. Latino music, Scottish bagpipes, Indian dance music) We will play the music and tell them what culture it is from. Then when that is finished we are going to replay the music and they will have pictures of the people in that culture playing that type of music, they will have to tell us what culture that the music we play is from. If you have a computer in the classroom you could use Youtube.com. It has everything you need on it. A nice digital projector, speakers and curtains ; you could make a miniture movie theatre.

Get a big cardboard box (asda usually let you have what they get bulk things in, if you ask someone nicely!) and make it into an ambulance. If you have an outdoor play house, you can turn that into a hospital or doctor's surgery.

I just started work in a preschool. I am responsible for one lesson a day. I can pretty much pick any theme I want. The morning teacher for the classroom that I have is doing all about me, which I am mirroring this week. I need lesson plan ideas though, on any and all topics. Also and content area: math, literacy, arts and crafts, sensory table I could use anything right now! I taught preschool for years and children always enjoyed clay, paint and cooking. I once had them write their names on a white t-shirt that they brought in and a picture of them doing a good deed they wanted to accomplish that day. Another was making a tree using toilet rolls and some construction paper to make the tree and i printed a picture of a playful bee and had them attach some some words that i typed out words that describe or you find in nature. ex. Beautiful, green, flowers, butterflies..etc. good luck and for more help you can contact me from my yahoo web page.

I would probably do a unit on Healthy Foods - they could make placemats with a fruit, vegetable, bread, milk and meat picture on it - you could make a healthy fruit salad together. Have them make a fruit dip to put on top - pudding, milk and cool whip and let them help shake. Look at the library for "The boy Who Wouldn't Eat breakfast" and "Gregory the Terrible Eater" - there are worksheets on the internet you can find that they can cut out the healthy foods. You could have a dentist come in and talk about taking care of your teeth _ there are endless things you can do> good luck!

Start by talking about safety while using scissors. With the children make a list of "How we use our scissors safely."

Q) How to we pass scissors?
A) Always pass handle first - scissors are sharp. Always pass with the scissors closed - scissors are sharp.

Q) Whose scissors do we use?
A) Only use childrens 'blunt end' scissors, not the teachers scissors - scissors are sharp.

Q) How to we carry scissors?
A) Never run with scissors - scissors are sharp

Q) Why do we use scissors?
A) Scissors are a tool, not a toy - scissors are sharp. You need a grown up with you when you use scissors - scissors are sharp

(hopefully by this time they are hoining in with the punch line)

Q) Where do we use scissors?
A)Tables are the best place to use scissors - scissors are sharp

Q) How do we hold scissors to use them?

A) Establish where your preschoolers are with their development of using scissors. Do they 'hedge cut' (cut using two hands)? Do they cut with the scissors but hold them upside down? Do they hold them correctly?

When teaching children to cut, first demonstrate how to hold scissors. Show the child how to place your thumb in the upper hole, and your first two fingers (index and middle) in the lower hole. Have the child practice picking up and holding the scissors

After the children have mastered picking up the scissors, teach them how to “snip. Use playdough for a cutting medium. This is the best for beginners as well as experienced scissor cutters. Playdough allows for a successful cut each time.

Move onto thin cardboard (the thickness of a cereal box) next. This will continue to give your preschooler the success they need, to continue to be a skilled cutter. Card is easier for a young child to cut then paper. Children can color the card with crayons before cutting.

Develop cutting skills next by drawing simple large shapes like circles, squares and triangles on a piece of thin card for preschooler to cut out.

Cut regular paper. This is the final step. Paper should be used when your preschooler is able to hold the scissor upright and successfully cut one of the other mediums mentioned.

This is the order of difficulty for shape cutting:

1. Cutting straight Lines.
2. Cutting curved,crooked, jagged, or wiggly lines.
3. Cutting Shapes.
4. Cutting Spirals.

Question by possession: what and how to create a lesson plan?
I am currently an Early Childhood Education student and for some reason I cannot grasp the concept of creating lesson plans; I've been interviewing for jobs and I know this is what has been doing me under. Basically, you have to decide what you want to students to have learned in the lesson, and organize your thoughts on how they will learn this. There are three basic stages: activating (getting them ready to learn), acquiring (what they do to learn the skill/content), and applying (what they do to consolidate the learning, and demonstrate what they learned).

You should have in your lesson indications of how long each stage will take, what materials will be needed, and what assessments will be done.

Once you have some experience, you won't need to record everything in quite so much detail, because the habits of planning for curriculum objectives and student learning styles will be fairly ingrained, but a good lesson plan is a way to make sure that your activities are purposeful and effective.
