Question by SPLAT! What A Mess: What is the difference between preschool and nursery school?
What is the difference between these two and kindergarten?
How old are kids when they are at each of these?

Best answer:

Answer by yourhonour63
Depends on where you live. Here, there's no difference at all. Preschool, playschool, or nursery school: all the same type of program. Licensing categorizes them all as "nursery schools". Here, children can attend preschool between age 2 1/2 and 4, depending on what each program offers. Kindergarten is offered by the public schools for children who will turn 5 before March 1 of the current school year, so about 4 1/2 to 5 1/2.

Preschool programs, whatever they're called, can have different philosophies, focusing on learning through play or a more teacher-directed academic focus or something in-between. They usually have theme-based learning of some type. Preschool programs are not free here.

Kindergartens are part of the public school system and usually have curriculum guidelines they must follow set by the province. It is free for all students.

Question by KAV0527: What is the difference between Nursery School and Preschool?
Also, how long does a child need to attend either one to be ready for Kindergarden?

Best answer:

Answer by marie
the way that i understand it, is that they are pretty much the same, i might be wrong but maybe nursery school is a little more like day care with less academics and preschool focuses more on academics, i think it really depends on the individual schools. as for how long before kindergarten, most school districts require students to be five by a certain age before they are able to enroll in kindergarten, i know that in CA if your child will be 5 by december 1 they are allowed to enroll for the school year beginning that august/september. public schools don't base whether a student can attend school based on ability, but on age.

Question by Teresa M: Should I take my daughter out of nursery school?
My daughter is 28 mnths old. She started nursery 6 wks ago. 2 evenings a week, 3 hours an evening. She is an only child and I wanted her to start mixing with other children & having fun with kids her own age. She absolutely loves going. Doesnt want to leave at home time and is very fond of her teacher already. The only problem is she has been sick almost every week since she started. She has picked up colds, eye infection, ear infection, chest infection, throat infection and a gastric bug since she started. The poor thing has never been so run down and ill. I was at the doctor yet again and she advised me to keep her out of nursery for a few weeks. Doctor said her immune system is very low and needs time to get fully better. Is there any point in letting her go back? Because she has not been around kids so much in the past does this mean she will pick up everything that is going. I feel so bad about keeping her out, she asks to go to nursery every day. Should I keep her out altogether?

Best answer:

Answer by Hberry
These type of things happen when children are around each other...But you should be comfortable with the school and that they keep it disinfected, and clean, b/c this is very important with 2 yr olds...It might take her a while to biuld up immunity to these types of sickness, but iit will be worth it.

Question by Peanutina: Why does my 3 yr old toddler run away screaming when I pick her up from nursery school?
She runs away screeching and tells me to go away. I know she loves the school, but this has been going on for a month now and I am starting to feel like I abuse her or something. It's embarassing. Can anyone help me with advice of how I can get her to look forward to me picking her up from school?

Best answer:

Answer by Maryn Bittner
(Love your user name!)

Ask the staff to help her prepare for going home, starting a good 15-30 minutes before you arrive. They can talk about the good things that will happen at home (dinner, story, snuggles, bath), how much her mommy has missed her all day, like that.

You might also see if you can start some sort of greeting ritual with her, first at home, then in other situations, last at nursery school. This might sidetrack her present behavior.

(My son and I had: "Hiya, short stuff!"

"Hiya, Big Stuff. What do you know?"

"Nothing, Joe. How's things with you?"

"Nothing new."

By the time we got through this, he'd 'acclimated' to being with me again.)

Question by Nicky Stevenson: How to stop a toddler from not screaming when left in nursery school?
Hey, everytime I leave my toddler at nursery he screams constantly and I am getting called back to calm him down, is there anyway of trying to change this behaviour quickly?

Answer by smallbizperson
Distraction is the best method. Take him to a favorite toy or game and get one of the caretakers to actively engage him in play he enjoys.
If he is talking, then you can talk to him as well. The night before, you can ask him who he likes best at day care, and what's his favorite game and who is his favorite person there. (Note, these are not questions that can be answered with a 'yes' or 'no.') Your goal is to reinforce the positive parts of day care.
Too, you can tell him, that the people at day care are teaching him about how to go to school and school is an amazingly fun place. For now, day care is his job, just like you have a job that you go to each day. Then you have evenings and weekends to enjoy each other.
You can ask him, "Do I always pick you up at the end of the day? Does something or somebody scare or you or is mean to you?" Here you reinforcing that he is safe and if something is wrong, you want to know so you can help fix it.
There is a chance that there is something legitimately wrong. Maybe another child bites him or the sound of a nearby train yard scares him. If there is an issue, perhaps you and the care giver can figure it out and correct it.

Question by Shirley: What is the minimum age of toddler to go to nursery school in dubai?
My baby is 18 months old. I want to know what's the minimum age required for putting him to nursery so that i can prepare my baby's schedule that way!

Thanks!

Answer by Vagabond
Although I don't have any children in nursery, I'm not aware of any age limit per se. The nurseries I do see have young toddlers, so you might just want to call and visit some of the nurseries near your home. Now is a great time to start to visit, even if you choose not to put him in right away.

This way you can find the best school for him, not just any school who will take him.

Cheers!

Nursery education: Best preschool-kkblr.com

Whether you are a parent or not, I am sure you would agree that the welfare of children whilst at nursery, Pre School, kindergarten or any type of day care facility is vital. Parents need to know that a certain level of care and protection is available for their children and luckily the pre school child care industry usually attracts staff and workers who carry out the highest levels of care at all times. Nursery Rhymes have been taught to children for hundreds of years, with many dating from the middle Ages. They are the earliest educational tools that children use for learning language and counting skills. Additionally they combine movement and music teaching kids rhythm and melody.

Any nursery rhymes were originally political commentaries from a time when free speech was punishable by imprisonment or even death, especially if you criticized the government of the day. Other rhymes allude to current events of the day. In terms of deciding when to send your child to playgroup or nursery; this will depend on their development and your knowledge of your child. You are the best judge of this and you will know when the time is right. The sudden change from the safety of home to an unfamiliar place and people can be an unsettling period for your child and you. However, staffs are experienced at easing the most reluctant children into new surroundings and involving them in activities within the room. This opportunity for children to interact with others will help them become aware of their needs, not just their own. They soon join the class activities, make new friends and begin their journey of discovery, as do you. The home environment is the first in which a baby is able to explore and learn from. An environment in which a baby is stimulated will encourage them to experience and learn things for themselves.

As children grow they become more curious about the world around them and begin exploring further. Providing surroundings which are constantly presenting new learning opportunities help children become accomplished at many basic skills. Things that can help development include alphabet freezes, 'hands on' toys teaching shape recognition, numbers displayed around the house, opportunities for painting & colouring, paper to draw on and cut and labels on things around the home.

As a parent you are faced with many choices when it comes to the development and education of your children. At all stages of their life. One of the most important decisions any parent can make is what method of childcare they opt for in the crucial period up to 5 years of age.

The childcare provider makes sure they are compliant there are really 4 main types of childcare option available to parents and guardians and the first of these is using a pre school. A Pre school usually operates on a sessional basis and traditionally provide childcare for children aged between 2 years 9 months until they begin school although they can take children younger than this.

The second option available to parents looking for childcare is a nursery. A nursery is more likely to appeal to working parents as they offer extended childcare arrangements including being open most of the year and being open for longer hours. Nurseries are usually run privately, by local educational authorities or by a chain of owners. This differs from pre schools that can be run privately or managed by a committee of volunteers.

Another option available when it comes to childcare is to employ a child minder. A child minder differs from pre schools and nurseries in that they are often individuals who provide childcare from their home and they are extremely flexible. Whereas a pre school or nursery sticks to set times a child minder can be part time, full or pretty much anytime providing they can reach an agreement with the parents of the children they are looking after. This can even extend to weekend and overnight childcare cover which for a parent can be extremely welcome. The final option available to parents is to employ a nanny to provide childcare for their children. A nanny will usually provide childcare in your home so you can benefit from the numerous advantages of this set up. Making sure our children are safe and protected at all times is clearly crucial to any modern society.

school systems, at least in michigan, have free preschool for families who cannot afford private preschools. also some preschools have voucher programs for families. your child can attend for a small fee or free and the school gets money from the government.

How to Help Your Child Adjust to Nursery School

Going to nursery school can be a big adjustment for both parent and child, especially for those parents who are sending their first child there and aren't used to what they'll be going through, and for children who used to being with Mum or Dad constantly throughout the day.

If you're concerned with how your child will be able to adjust to attending nursery school on a regular basis what are some things you can do to help him or her settle in to their first day and first experiences with this?

One of the best things you can do throughout the child's young years is to make a practice of leaving him or her with a babysitter or with another relative, even if it's just for a few hours here and there.

This means that your child will be used to being in the care of strangers and won't be terrified by the idea of someone other than Mum or Dad taking care of them.

It's interesting how children with large families and parents who both work seem to adjust better to nursery school than children who are rarely left with anyone else.

When it is time for your child to attend nursery school make sure you bring him or her to the facility before that first day. Walk him or her through the entire building and show them the toys and other games they can play with.

Introduce your child to the teachers. Make sure your child is very familiar with the nursery school itself before it's time to leave him or her there.

Some nursery schools will allow a parent to sit nearby on that first day so that you're not interfering with the activities of the school but the child knows you're still there. If this isn't possible, make sure your child understands what will happen on that first day and all the days after.

The way you present this information is going to go a long way toward your child's attitude about nursery school and whether or not the child is going to look forward to it or dread it.

If you say something like, "If you have a problem or don't like the other children, Mummy will be right there to pick you up," then you've planted the idea in their head that there might be a problem or the other children might be nasty.

However, if you say something like, "I know how much you loved all those toys we saw and how much you like [staff member's name] so you are going to be able to play with them all day! How does that sound?"

Now the child understands that nursery school is a fun adventure with people that he or she likes and activities they look forward to, rather than something to dread.

Question by anon: Will i get in trouble if i remove my son from school nursery?
I want to take my son out of his preschool nursery so we can enjoy the summer months together before he has to go to school in september. He will be 5 then and school will be compulsory. Can the school give me any grief for taking him out early? (UK)

Best answer:

Answer by Sammie ♥
Providing the year he goes to school is his first reception year, then it is fine.
You may find the practitioners try & persuade you to keep him there, or they may offer shorter hours, mainly just to keep him in that routine of doing work & socialising with other children.
If you do take him out early, I suggest you still take him to some form of club or even a play area so he continues to develop & maintain his social skills with other children and adults.
