I majored in early childhood education not too long ago, and made lesson plan after lesson plan after lesson plan...

What sorts of lesson plans do you need help with? Large motor activities, science, music, art, stories?

Here's an example for a large motor activity:
Bean Bag Toss
Area of Development: Physical
Objectives: By participating in this activity the children will…
-Develop large motor skills as they use their arms to throw bean bags.
-Enhance hand-eye coordination as they aim the bags into the basket or bucket.

Example story activity:
The Itsy Bitsy Spider, by Iza Trapani
Area of Development: Social/emotional
Objectives: By participating in this activity the children will…
-Discuss feelings and emotions.
-Develop listening skills as the story is read.

Example science activity:
Magnet Exploration Table
Area of Development: Cognitive
Objectives: By participating in this activity the children will…
-Experiment with magnets and various objects
-Predict which objects are attracted to magnets, and test their predictions
-Classify objects that are attracted to magnets

Example of an art activity:
Painting with Cars
Area of Development: Physical
Objectives: By participating in this activity the children will…
-Develop fine motor skills as they paint using toy cars
-Coordinate various grasping techniques, including pincer grasp, to pick up cars
-Develop social/emotional skills as the use their imaginations while “driving” the cars through the paint with other children
-Develop creativity skills as they create their artwork

These are all samples of my own lesson plans when I taught a preschool class as part of my schooling. All child development teachers like lesson plans done their own way, but I hope this helped you develop your own ideas. Best wishes and good luck!

Call the number, you may be able to get a copy of the book. As for teaching lesson, I found this site is easier and follows federal standards too.
http://www.teacherquicksource.com/ I use the Head Start standards, Ohio follows these. The preschool standards is also great for lessons. That said, I think the standards are a bit 'weak'. Still, you know you have your bases covered. Don't forget to teach math and science. This site goes beyond standards, but is very age-appropriate and far better Preschool Rock. My computer isn't bringing it up, hope the site isn't down!

Q&A: Infant/Toddler Lesson Plans?

Posted by chris

Question by chantelle_marie02: Infant/Toddler Lesson Plans?
I'm beginning the first phase of my student teaching next month. The first half of the semester will be teaching children who are not yet old enough to attend public schools and have developmental delays. Some of the children are infants and toddlers. Does anyone have any lessons or websites that would help me out. I'm just trying to get some ideas ahead of time and have never written plans for this age group. Every activity must also be HANDS ON. I'm an Early Childhood Major and we can only teach hands on..NO worksheets or color pages! Thanks!

Question by julierose84: preschool lesson plans?
I just started work in a preschool. I am responsible for one lesson a day. I can pretty much pick any theme I want. The morning teacher for the classroom that I have is doing all about me, which I am mirroring this week. I need lesson plan ideas though, on any and all topics. Also and content area: math, literacy, arts and crafts, sensory table I could use anything right now! I am going to try to do a two week fall theme, but am having a hard time getting a weeks worth of lessons let alone two. Any help?

Best answer:

Answer by LILLY
I taught preschool for years and children always enjoyed clay, paint and cooking. I once had them write their names on a white t-shirt that they brought in and a picture of them doing a good deed they wanted to accomplish that day. Another was making a tree using toilet rolls and some construction paper to make the tree and i printed a picture of a playful bee and had them attach some some words that i typed out words that describe or you find in nature. ex. Beautiful, green, flowers, butterflies..etc. good luck and for more help you can contact me from my yahoo web page.

These themes help in grouping together the elements of early childhood lesson plan so that the children of certain age group are able to grasp the details being taught to them. Usually, the home schoolteachers, pre-school teachers, the day care providers, need these plans for effectively imparting the education to the kids.

The early childhood lesson plans provide craft ideas, pre-school teacher's as well as daycare activities. It is possible to customize the activities in these plans for the varied groups of toddlers as the need may be. Usually, the activities in the early childhood lesson plans are classified in the three categories, as mentioned before, as Kindergartens, preschoolers and toddlers. Some of the activities may be common to all categories with little modifications. The organization of the lesson plans are by letter especially for the alphabet activity index.

The source of the best early childhood lesson plans can be varied. Many teachers prepare these plans from the first principles as they are taught in the educational schools while some of them refer to the readymade sources. The readymade source can be notes from a senior teacher, educational books dealing with the subject or the online and offline software and web pages. The advantage of the online early childhood lesson plans is the ease of availability and access. Many of the websites offer free plans while in case of a creative requirements, they may charge some amount. However, usually for the majority of needs, the plans are available free of cost.

A quick search on the popular search engine would reveal the plethora of early childhood lesson plans available online. The user can do a search on the specific theme and, if required, can get the translation done to the local language. The online translators are useful for translating, though; some websites offer the translated plan as well. Some of the sites offer activities of early childhood lesson plans categorized into interesting categories like alphabets, stories, rhymes, music etc. Many websites are regularly updating their pages with the appropriate activities, which enhance the various skills of the toddlers. Answer by abiona
have fun. and remember, you don't have to break up the lessons into the areas of math, english, ss and science -- you just have to be sure that it's all incorporated. for example, if the children are counting out materials they will use to make a puppet to read with, you've just used math and english. check the benchmarks and standards from your state and keep them in mind while designing your curriculum. here are some sites that may have useful ideas.

Question by Giggles-for-life: Preschool Math Lesson Plans With Quilt Theme?
I am in a child development class and we have to plan/teach lessons to the preschoolers. Next week is my turn, and I was thinking of doing something with a quilt theme. I need some type of math lesson I can do, and I was thinking about teaching them about shapes to go along with the quilt theme. How could I teach this? Any ideas?

Or do you have any ideas for math lessons related to something starting with the letters Q or R? Keep in mind the kids are 3-5 years old. Any ideas would be appreciated! Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by yourhonour63
An idea for the quilt theme: How about patterns? That is an important math concept for preschoolers. Give each child a row divided into squares. Have them create a pattern with shapes and/or colours or have them complete patterns you have started. Then connect the rows together to create a quilt. (Does that make sense?)

Hmm . . . math lessons related to letters? That's not something I've ever heard of. Maybe make math folder games? My preschoolers loved those. Make or cut out pictures of queens with crowns that have from 1-10 (or whatever numbers) stones in the crown. They have to count the stones and match the queen to the right number.

For R - I'm stuck and out of time! LOL Something kind of like the queen game, only starting with R. I'm thinking rabbits, but am not sure what . . .

Question by mrs.sizemore024: Social studies preschool lesson plans?
Can someone give me a good suggestion of a website and/or books that you have used for teaching lesson plans based on all or any of the following...History, Multiculturalism, geography, economics, government, and citizenship? I'm looking for legit lesson plans with objectives and procedures. It seems almost impossible to teach these standards to preschoolers!

Best answer:

Answer by saraimay75
In my experience lesson/activity plans are based on observations that yon see or make in the classroom. Books are not always the best answer. What you need to do is make what you want to teach real for the children.
Your first resource could be parents especially if you have a multicultural classroom. Ask them for help.
Dolls in your classroom need to represent different cultures.
Don't limit your music choices to children's music. As long as the music has no objectionable language then it can be played in the classroom.
Have the clothes in you dress-up area represent different cultures.
Have the picture on your wall of different places.
Do you have any families that celebrate holidays that are not usually celebrated? Ask them to bring in something from that holiday.
By doing these things you are making learning an experience.

Question by emily21182: Can someone help me make preschool and kindergarten music lesson plans?
I was just assigned to be the music teacher at work. I have knowledge of music but do not have formal experience teaching. I work with the kids as an assistant but mostly work in the office. Any tips or suggestions?

Best answer:

Answer by cadz2k7
It may not be the best answer, as I've never taught children before, however I have experience from looking after younger siblings and babysitting.

You HAVE to get the children involved. Children become bored easily if they aren't involved enough, so try to get every child involved.
You could aim for the children to make a song. Talk with the step by step to what makes a good song, and see if they can make a song using either things found around the classroom or actual instruments.
I don't think it's best introducing kindergarten students to notes and such, but try to get them understanding rhythm by doing a simple 'beat exercise'. Play a song and clap to the beat, then point out a group of children and see if they can carry the beat on.
If you are really looking for something engaging and creative, try getting the children to make their own instruments. It can be hectic, but it's great fun for young children. You can make instruments like drums and shakers easily.
Another fun game is finding everyday objects that can be used to make music, such as a pot of pencils or pans. Children seem to have great fun making music with the most common things!

I hope I helped in some way, and I hope your lessons go well!
Cadz.

Toddler Lesson Plans For Toddler Reading

Many parents should spend more time reading with their children. In addition, books are so valuable to learning and developing new concepts. As well as, some parents want their children to get an early start on learning and try to prepare their children for preschool with toddler lesson plans.

One of the key components of learning for toddlers is developing reading skills. Furthermore, this article will focus on developing reading lesson plans for toddlers.

It is important to get your toddler familiar with going to the library and checking out a book. Also, the child can be introduced to the librarian staff and shown the children book area. Many libraries have schedule story time during different times of the year.

You can allow the child to participate in any library activities that involved reading and learning about new book releases. The trips to the library will allow the child to develop a love for the library and reading.

In addition, you can allow the child to choose a book to read once a week from the library. You would return home with the book and read with the child. It would help to discuss the book after completely reading the book.

It would help to make the toddler lesson plans for reading interactive for the child. In addition, you should encourage conversation from the child while reading any book. If you are reading a book on cows then ask the child "What sound does the cow makes?"

Also, you can point out pictures in the book and ask the child to name the person, place or thing. The interactive method helps the child learn concepts, spell and how to read. As well as, make sure the child can identify every picture in the book.

Books are not just used for reading but can be used as a tool to introduce the child to other subjects. It's unbelievable at the number of resources available for our children on the market.

For example, there are books on ballet, fishing, football, painting and camping for toddlers. The books give a description of the activities and explain why people do the activity.

In addition, books can be used as a reference for everyday experience for teaching the toddler. For instance, if you see a police car then point out to the child that's a police car from one of the books the child was reading.

Also, you can encourage a child to read by rewarding the child. The child can set a goal to read a certain amount of books each month. If the child makes the goal then you can reward the child with his favorite treat.

As well as, reading can be quality time for the family. Moreover, reading allows the parent to make memories with their children by reading a book every night before bedtime.

Some children spend countless hours watching TV, playing video games and surfing the internet. It is important to get your child involved in physical activities and mind stimulating activities. Furthermore, toddler lessons plans can be really effective in developing your child's reading IQ.

You can source Toddler Lesson Plans on the internet, and they are also available to buy when you want to implement a total package of professionally designed Toddler Lesson Plans to use at home with your child. Get yours here: www.babylearningsecrets.com.au
