Depends on where you live. Here, there's no difference at all. Preschool, playschool, or nursery school: all the same type of program. Licensing categorizes them all as "nursery schools". Here, children can attend preschool between age 2 1/2 and 4, depending on what each program offers. Kindergarten is offered by the public schools for children who will turn 5 before March 1 of the current school year, so about 4 1/2 to 5 1/2.

Preschool programs, whatever they're called, can have different philosophies, focusing on learning through play or a more teacher-directed academic focus or something in-between. They usually have theme-based learning of some type. Preschool programs are not free here.

Kindergartens are part of the public school system and usually have curriculum guidelines they must follow set by the province. It is free for all students.

I majored in early childhood education not too long ago, and made lesson plan after lesson plan after lesson plan...

What sorts of lesson plans do you need help with? Large motor activities, science, music, art, stories?

Here's an example for a large motor activity:
Bean Bag Toss
Area of Development: Physical
Objectives: By participating in this activity the children will…
-Develop large motor skills as they use their arms to throw bean bags.
-Enhance hand-eye coordination as they aim the bags into the basket or bucket.

Example story activity:
The Itsy Bitsy Spider, by Iza Trapani
Area of Development: Social/emotional
Objectives: By participating in this activity the children will…
-Discuss feelings and emotions.
-Develop listening skills as the story is read.

Example science activity:
Magnet Exploration Table
Area of Development: Cognitive
Objectives: By participating in this activity the children will…
-Experiment with magnets and various objects
-Predict which objects are attracted to magnets, and test their predictions
-Classify objects that are attracted to magnets

Example of an art activity:
Painting with Cars
Area of Development: Physical
Objectives: By participating in this activity the children will…
-Develop fine motor skills as they paint using toy cars
-Coordinate various grasping techniques, including pincer grasp, to pick up cars
-Develop social/emotional skills as the use their imaginations while “driving” the cars through the paint with other children
-Develop creativity skills as they create their artwork

Question by happyteacher4u: Would opening a preschool in a small town make a average amount of income?
I'm a teacher now and my job may be eliminated due to class sizes. I'm weighing my options and with my early childhood degree I would be qualified to open up my own preschool. I would have to rent a space and buy all of the supplies myself. Could I make 35,000 + doing this?

depends on the need. In some small towns there are already a lot of preschools. Look up in the phone book, if there are already a lot of preschools, you might want to venture elsewhere. If you are a small town though that has a richer demographic with small children, you could try to market yourself as an upscale preschool. You could charge more for tuition that way.

The Head Start program in my area doesn't require any school supplies. I would call Head Start and ask directly if they require that the parents provide any supplies.

Introduce a tract ministry.

It is easy and effective.

Tracts are one of the easiest ways to get Gods word into places that are normally off limits to normal witnessing.

I take tracts with me whenever I go out to eat, HomeDepot, Cedar Point, etc.

Call the number, you may be able to get a copy of the book. As for teaching lesson, I found this site is easier and follows federal standards too.
http://www.teacherquicksource.com/ I use the Head Start standards, Ohio follows these. The preschool standards is also great for lessons. That said, I think the standards are a bit 'weak'. Still, you know you have your bases covered. Don't forget to teach math and science. This site goes beyond standards, but is very age-appropriate and far better Preschool Rock. My computer isn't bringing it up, hope the site isn't down!

Question by Mom Club: What Preschool schedule is the best preparation for Kindergarten?
My son has always done some form of day care or preschool. He is currently doing afternoon preschool 3x/week and will do preschool again next year, then start Kindergarten in the Fall of 2012. Should I move him to a 4x/week schedule? Should I do am's instead of pm's? What will better prepare him for a full day Kindergarten schedule?

Do 4 days a week, for sure. It doesn't matter so much if he does AM or PM, just do whichever works best for him, or you, or whatever the school has open.

The four days in a row gets him in the rhythm of going to school several times a week, which can be tiring. Another thing children learn when they go to school several days in a row is the continuity of the curriculum- the teacher can build on what was learned earlier in the week, or even what was done the day before. This will help students gain confidence and feel like they are really learning and growing up.

Question by Mercy: What would be a fair price to charge for preschool per week?
With the economy the way that it is, I have struggled with this for a month now. Children will be enrolled Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00am-12pm. 1 snack and lunch will be provided. Also, all supplies that the child will need will be included in the price. It is a home preschool and I live in Northwest Indiana.

This is a toughy. Alot of factors go into the price of a preschool. Not just on a parents point of view ( how many hours, level o activities, what is provided). But also from your end in regards to cost / verses amount of children You do not want to rip off the parent but in same respect dont wantto lose money.

I dont know the price in your state. based on information i got from the web site below i calculated approximatly $ 152 a week. However this was for full time pre school. But it averaged out to $ 55 a day. Keep in mind that was full day
