Question by babylove4468: How much does a pre school teacher earn?
What is the salary of a pre school teacher. A teacher for kids between the age 1-2? I love that age and think i have done an amazing job teaching my boys. Just surious, i dont think i'll ever get into that field tho. I like Health care much better.

Best answer:

Answer by capitalgentleman
Here (Ontario), an primary or elementary school teacher would start at something like $ 35-40k, and work fairly steadily up to about $ 60k. A preschool teacher here is considered basically a daycare worker, working in privately owned facilities, and $ 15 an hour would be really good. So, high $ 20's or very low $ 30's per year, max.

Many provincial school systems now offer Kindergarten (age 5), or Junior Kindergarten (age 4 - usually half-days only) as part of the school system. These teachers would be paid as teachers, not day-care workers.

Kids under 4 would be in daycare centres only (or maybe Montessori schools).

Question by MalinaB: How do you become a preschool teacher in California?
I have experience working with children. I've been doing it for the past 6 years. I am interested in becoming a preschool teacher in California. Someone told be that all you need is 12 units of ECE is this true???

Best answer:

Answer by boveramerica
Go to your local Junior College. Meet with a counselor and they will sign you up into the appropriate classes to obtain at least 12ece units .That is usually the minimum required to become a pre-school teacher. Also, cpr is usually required, of if nothing else, a good thing to know since you will be working with young children. GOOD LUCK!

Question by Different Uchiha: How much does a kindergarten teacher get paid?
I live in California and this question is merely for some dumbass project we're doing in computer class. And on that note, do you need a college education to be a kindergarten teacher?

Best answer:

Answer by mamianka
Yes, you need to be certified to be ANY teacher - so that means at least a BA college degree, and in most states, a Master's degree as well. Teachers of ALL subjects and grades are paid the same base pay. Your salary goes up with additional graduate-level credits, and years of experience. A HS calculus teacher who is new will make LESS than a 2nd grade teacher who is multi-degreed and experienced.

If you are the one doing the asking here, using the term *dumbass* in any capacity might be a reason that you do not get as many answers as you wish.

Best answer:

Answer by Sandely65
Actually you would need a college degree to become a pre-school teacher. It's called Early Childhood Education and a couple of my friends are majoring in that. I don't think it's a terribly difficult major, but you can't just become certified in a week or anything like that.

How can I certify my studies in NYC and were is the board of education?

Best answer:

Answer by DrIG
The Office of Personnel is located at 65 Court Street. Go there with all the evidence or documentation that you have. Be prepared to wait, but once you are finished with them process things will move a lot more smoothly.

You can also go to the schools in your area where you would like to work. If there is an opening the school will probably send you to Court Street for processing.

Good luck.

Question by ml: New preschool teacher looking for tips for teaching twos?
I am starting a new job as a teacher in the two-year-old classroom at a small preschool. I'm looking for tips from other early educators: do's and don't's, favorite activities/stories/games/songs for this age group, things I should be asking the director/other teachers during my first week, things you wish you had done differently or had known sooner, favorite teacher resources -- any other tips or advice. Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Jen
I taught the two's last year. Here are things I discovered in the first month or two that I had not anticipated-

1. They don't know what it means to be in "school", or a "class". They think they are visiting you at your house, and they will go home soon. After a week or two of still coming, many of them really started to act up. They wanted it (school) to stop. It took months for them to realize that being in a class meant that they were in a group of people.

2. They don't understand what a "teacher" is, or that you are in authority. They get up and walk away when they feel like it, they don't do what you tell them to.

3. It gets very physical in that you constantly have to physically show them what to do. They do what you do. If you get out the play-dough, they want to play with play-dough. Don't sit in a teacher's chair to read a book. Sit on the rug, just like you want them to do, or you will lose them all to another area of the classroom. Many days I went home with aches and pains from crouching, sitting on tiny kid sized chairs, or having kids crawl all over me.

4. You are teaching the parents as much as you are teaching the kids. For many of the parents, it's their first time leaving their child with a non-relative. You have to gently tell them things- "I'll hold him so you can leave now", etc. I tried to make it very easy on my parents by having a short list of "Things to Do" at the bottom of each parent letter. I kept the list short and used few words, so they could remember it.

5. For September, I had thought I would do Apples and the Color Red. They barely understood apple. Doing colors didn't happen until March or April. I brought in an apple a few times a week, and would cut off tiny pieces so they could taste it. I had 2 or 3 simple books about how apples grew on a tree. That was it for the whole month. It wasn't that I didn't want to do more- it was just that was all they could handle. For October I did pumpkins. They liked that, but I had to add "Farm" to the theme so I didn't lose my mind. On November first (after Halloween), I was able to go to a pumpkin patch and purchase some small pumpkins for really cheap. We painted them with tempera paints. They looked terrible, but the kids liked it.

6. Everything you do in class will be the "first time" for them. You give them paint and a paintbrush, and they don't know what to do. Do you eat it? Do you color your hand? You have to show them every little thing. After Christmas break, though, it improves substantially.

Well with it being so close to the summer. I would start teaching the kids on water safety. Reading them stories about outside activities. For example Fun Dog Sun Dog & What a ride, what a ride across the river on my back, those are both great books for 3K & 4K children. Ask your director about lesson plains and themes for the month. Make sure you know what the kids are allergic to, and if there are special needs for different children in your class. They are so much fun at this age. Have fun and good luck. Kids are our future. I love working with my preschool class.

Question by Joe Finkle: What are good questions to ask for a preschool teacher job interview?
My wife is a head teacher in a preschool classroom and is looking to hire an additional co-teacher to work with her and her assisstant. Any advice on good questions to ask in the interviews would be appreciated.

Best answer:

Answer by pamela a
What was the interviewee's most memorable experiences as a young child? I would think this gives you a sense of why they are interested to teach young children under age 5 . . . Was it because someone made a significant difference in their lives? Honor? Confidence? Were they happy? Fearful of adults? Secure? Insecure?

Also, perhaps ask them to depict a typical scenario of what they feel a day would be like with their brood. How they see themselves in the teaching environment, from morning to end of the day.

Did the potential, new teacher arrive with a little goodie bag, full of fun, books, games, learning materials that they might utilize? Now there would be an honest, sincere applicant!

Bon chance! Hope this helps.

Aloha

I taught pre-school children for two years, as well as held a DayCare Center for ages 0-12 while my children were very little . . . mainly because I wanted to be the one instilling their future values, and to know what words and concepts were being shared with them.
